FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below are some of the most common questions we receive about our servicing and calibration support. Whether you need routine calibration, maintenance, or on-site servicing for your gas detection equipment, these answers outline how Ribble Enviro ensures accuracy, compliance, and reliable performance across every system.
If your question isn’t covered below, please contact our servicing team, who will be happy to help.
What is the difference between calibration and bump testing?
A bump test is a quick functional check to confirm that a gas detector’s sensors and alarms respond to target gases. Calibration is a precise adjustment using certified, traceable test gases to ensure the readings are accurate. Both are essential—bump tests verify operation, calibration verifies accuracy.
Do you provide on-site calibration, or do detectors need to be sent in?
We offer both options. Our mobile service engineers can calibrate and maintain equipment on-site anywhere in the UK, minimising downtime. Alternatively, you can send detectors to our fully equipped service centre, where we typically provide a 3-working-day turnaround.
Will I receive calibration certificates for my equipment?
Yes. Every calibration includes a certificate traceable to national standards, detailing the gases used, test results, and service date. Certificates are issued electronically for easy storage and compliance audits.
What happens if my gas detector fails calibration?
If a sensor or component fails, our engineers will identify the cause and provide repair or replacement options using genuine parts. We’ll always obtain your approval before carrying out any additional work, ensuring transparency and cost control.
Do you offer ongoing service contracts or reminder systems?
No. We currently provide servicing and calibration on a one-off or as-needed basis. However, we maintain detailed service records and calibration certificates for all completed work, making it simple for you to track service intervals internally.
What should I do before sending my gas detectors for calibration?
Before sending equipment, ensure each detector is clean, clearly labelled, and free from damage or contamination. Remove accessories such as clips or hoses where possible. We’ll inspect the unit upon arrival, confirm the work required, and contact you if any additional repairs are needed.
