Description

RAE Systems AutoRAE 2 is an automated bump test, calibration and charging station for RAE portable gas detectors, optimised for fleet compliance.

RAE Systems AutoRAE 2 is an automatic test and calibration system for RAE Systems portable gas monitors, combining bump testing, full calibration, charging and records management in a single platform. It replaces manual procedures and paper logs with one-touch workflows, clear visual/audible feedback and automatic data capture. The modular design scales from a single cradle to multi-cradle, networked configurations, supporting larger fleets and demanding safety regimes while helping to keep detectors compliant, documented and ready for deployment.

AT A GLANCE

  • Automated compliance workflows: Integrates bump testing, calibration, charging and records management to support consistent, documented instrument maintenance.
  • Flexible, scalable architecture: Operates as a standalone cradle or as a controller-based system supporting multiple cradles for larger fleets.
  • Simple, low-error operation: Cradle-and-go design with one-touch tests, clear LEDs and audible alarms helps reduce training time and user error.
  • Networked, data-ready platform: SD card logging, Ethernet, optional Wi‑Fi and USB connectivity support audit-ready records and integration with connected safety systems.

Overview of RAE Systems AutoRAE 2

Automated Compliance for Portable Gas Detector Fleets

RAE Systems AutoRAE 2 is designed to remove much of the burden and variability from routine gas detector maintenance. Instead of relying on manual test steps and handwritten logs, AutoRAE 2 automates bump testing, full calibration, charging and records management within a single, integrated station. Instruments are simply placed in the cradle and a test or calibration sequence is initiated; the system manages gas delivery, timing, pass/fail evaluation and record creation. This approach helps ensure that RAE Systems detectors are consistently tested, correctly calibrated and fully charged, reducing the risk of non-compliant or unsafe instruments entering service.

Simple One-Touch Operation That Reduces Training Needs

The system is built around a straightforward “cradle the monitor and go” workflow. Each cradle provides dedicated [Bump] and [Cal] buttons for fast access to test sequences, while the controller uses only three buttons ([Mode], [Y/+], [N/−]) to handle configuration and operation. Bright tri-colour LEDs on the cradles give an immediate visual indication of pass, fail or in-progress status, and an integrated audible alarm signals test completion, failures or faults. This intuitive interface helps technicians, contractors and first responders follow the correct process with minimal training and supports consistent test routines across shifts and sites.

Modular, Scalable Architecture for Growing Instrument Fleets

AutoRAE 2 supports a wide range of deployment models, from compact single-cradle stations to multi-cradle, networked systems. It can operate as an individual cradle servicing one instrument at a time without a controller, or as a controller-based installation supporting up to 10 cradles simultaneously. The standardised controller-plus-cradle platform enables organisations to expand capacity as fleets grow while keeping hardware, procedures and training consistent. A single cradle design accommodates all QRAE 3 and ToxiRAE Pro family instruments, helping to simplify hardware selection, spares and maintenance.

Designed for Real-World Calibration Gas Programmes

The system supports up to five distinct calibration gases or gas mixtures connected at the same time, covering typical, exotic and specialty calibration requirements. A built-in pump in the controller maintains a consistent flow rate for accurate gas delivery, while support for demand-flow regulators allows the use of high-pressure cylinders for reliable supply. Dedicated fresh air and multiple configurable calibration gas inlets, together with exhaust ports, support safe, controlled gas handling. Gas port connectors with 200-series barbs are designed for secure connection to standard tubing, making it straightforward to build a repeatable, leak-resistant calibration setup.

Networked, Data-Driven Records for Audit Readiness

AutoRAE 2 is engineered to simplify compliance evidence and audit preparation. The controller is supplied with SD card storage as standard, automatically logging bump test and calibration results for each instrument. It can also download instrument datalogging files, centralising exposure and alarm histories on the SD card without requiring a dedicated PC for daily operation. RJ‑45 Ethernet connectivity and an optional Wi‑Fi module allow remote configuration and data transfer, while a USB (Type B) interface supports PC-based setup via ProRAE Studio II software. At cradle level, USB connectivity and RS‑232 printer support provide options for immediate printed records where local paper trails are required.

Performance, Installation and Long-Term Investment Protection

AutoRAE 2 is optimised for both field and in-plant environments, with a robust operating range suitable for workshops, maintenance areas and mobile facilities. The controller features a large, backlit 5.7″ colour TFT LCD display for clear status information, prompts and diagnostics, supporting fast fault finding and reduced downtime. The system can be used on a bench top or mounted to a wall using a TS35 DIN rail, allowing flexible installation in crowded spaces such as trailers, control rooms or maintenance bays. Firmware on both the station and supported instruments can be upgraded, helping to protect long-term investment as requirements and instrument firmware evolve. The CE-compliant design and 2‑year limited warranty on controller and cradles provide additional assurance for long-term deployment.

Supporting Standardisation and Connected Safety Strategies

AutoRAE 2 supports key RAE Systems instruments, including the ToxiRAE Pro family, QRAE 3, MicroRAE, MultiRAE series, MultiRAE Benzene and MiniRAE/UltraRAE/ppbRAE PID models. This broad compatibility allows organisations to standardise fleet maintenance for multi-gas, single-gas and PID detectors on a single automated platform. The ability to charge up to 10 instruments simultaneously from the controller power supply further streamlines turnaround between shifts. Combined with networking, SD card storage and optional Wi‑Fi, AutoRAE 2 can be deployed as part of wider connected safety or occupational hygiene monitoring solutions, supporting applications such as confined space entry, leak detection, plant turnarounds, emergency response and environmental remediation.
