Description

Riken Keiki SDM-3R Calibration Station automates GX-3R / GX-3R Pro maintenance, combining stand-alone and PC-controlled fleet management in one platform.

The Riken Keiki SDM-3R Calibration Station is a dedicated docking and maintenance platform for GX-3R and GX-3R Pro portable gas detectors. It automates charging, bump testing, calibration, and alarm checks, replacing manual routines with controlled, repeatable sequences. Stand-alone operation with onboard memory supports simple bench setups, while PC-controlled mode scales to centrally managed fleets. By combining automated testing, integrated charging, and structured recordkeeping, the SDM-3R helps safety teams keep instruments compliant, maintenance workloads predictable, and gas detection programmes audit-ready.

AT A GLANCE

  • Automated GX-3R (Pro) care: Docking-based charging, bump testing, calibration, and alarm checks reduce manual handling and support consistent instrument performance.
  • Flexible stand-alone or PC control: Operates as a self-contained station or as part of a centrally managed fleet via USB-connected software.
  • Modular, manifoldable gas routing: Snap-together stations with multiple gas inlets allow shared cylinders and regulators, reducing gas consumption and hardware.
  • Robust documentation and oversight: Automatic logging with USB and PC export underpins compliance records and higher-level programme monitoring.

Overview of Riken Keiki SDM-3R Calibration Station

Automated Care for GX-3R and GX-3R Pro Fleets

The Riken Keiki SDM-3R Calibration Station is engineered as a dedicated docking and maintenance hub for GX-3R and GX-3R Pro portable gas detectors. It automates charging, bump testing, full calibration, and alarm checks each time an instrument is docked, replacing manual steps and paper-based records with structured routines. Auto on/off control powers the detector up for service when inserted and shuts it down when removed, simplifying handling and reducing the likelihood of user error. This approach supports regular testing and calibration, helping to keep personal monitors ready for use across industrial safety programmes.

Stand-Alone Operation for Simple, Reliable Workflow

In stand-alone mode, the Riken Keiki SDM-3R Calibration Station functions as a self-sufficient test bench with no PC connection required. It executes automatic bump test sequences to verify detector response, runs full calibration routines to maintain sensor accuracy, and performs alarm checks to confirm correct operation of warning functions. Internal memory automatically stores records for each activity, with capacity for up to 200 calibrations, 214 bump tests, or 469 alarm check records. Test status and results are indicated on the docked GX-3R display, providing clear confirmation directly on the instrument. This mode suits facilities that prioritise a straightforward, local workflow without additional IT infrastructure.

PC-Controlled Fleet Management and Scalable Record Storage

When connected via USB, the Riken Keiki SDM-3R Calibration Station becomes part of a PC-controlled fleet management system. A single computer can manage up to 10 GX-3R or GX-3R Pro instruments through up to 10 SDM-3R modules, enabling central scheduling and oversight of routine maintenance. In this configuration, record storage is effectively scalable, with bump test, calibration, and alarm check data archived directly to the PC or a network location for consolidated recordkeeping.

The supplied software provides tools for viewing, archiving, and managing test and event data, as well as retrieving datalogging histories from each instrument. These histories can be consolidated into a single, easy-to-manage location, aiding traceability and trend analysis. The software also enables configuration and adjustment of GX-3R (Pro) instrument parameters, helping to standardise alarm settings and operating modes across fleets. A noncompliance dashboard highlights instruments or activities that fall outside required testing regimes, supporting higher-level oversight. The system is compatible with commonly used Windows operating systems and supports export to USB flash drives for straightforward data transfer.

Modular, Manifoldable Design to Optimise Gas and Hardware Use

The Riken Keiki SDM-3R Calibration Station features a modular architecture that allows multiple docks to be snapped together into a tailored system. Each station provides up to three calibration gas inputs, giving flexibility for multi-gas calibration arrangements. In total, five ports are available: three calibration gas inlets, one fresh air inlet, and one exhaust outlet. Stations can be manifolded together so that several modules share the same gas supplies, which can reduce the number of demand flow regulators and cylinders required.

Available configurations with one, two, or three solenoids or cylinder inputs are intended to match different gas cylinder setups. Some package options include demand flow regulators, multi-gas cylinders and holders to provide a more turnkey calibration arrangement. By sharing gas across docks and simplifying gas routing, the SDM-3R helps reduce consumable usage and rationalise accessory inventories in instrument workshops and safety departments.

Clean Test Environment and Safe Exhaust Management

To help maintain calibration integrity, the Riken Keiki SDM-3R Calibration Station incorporates an inlet air filter to promote clean fresh air during bump tests and calibrations, supporting stable zeroing and consistent instrument performance. The station is supplied with a 10 ft (3 m) exhaust tube to route exhaust gas away from personnel and sensitive work areas, improving local safety and comfort. A 3 ft (0.9 m) tube for calibration gas fittings is also included to simplify initial installation and connection to gas cylinders.

The system is designed for indoor use within specified temperature and humidity limits and is powered by the included AC adapter, which accepts a wide AC input range and delivers regulated low-voltage DC output. This makes the SDM-3R suitable for use in instrument rooms, maintenance shops, and control areas where regular testing and calibration activities are carried out.

Structured Data Handling, Documentation, and Support

The Riken Keiki SDM-3R Calibration Station is designed to make recordkeeping as controlled as the maintenance process itself. Every bump test, calibration, and alarm check is automatically logged, creating an audit trail that supports regulatory compliance and internal safety procedures. Records can remain on the station, be transferred to the included USB flash drive, or be archived directly to a connected PC or network share, allowing alignment with existing document control practices.

Software-controlled data retrieval simplifies downloading of instrument datalogging histories so that exposure and alarm data can be held alongside test results. The platform is supported by downloadable software, firmware updates, manuals, datasheets, and user guides, and is produced by Riken Keiki / RKI Instruments, an established gas detection manufacturer. Typical short lead times, along with optional rental, calibration, inspection, cleaning, and repair services available through some distributors, help maintain continuity in gas detection programmes and support centralised management of GX-3R and GX-3R Pro detector fleets.
