Description
Trolex TX9165 Sentro 8 is a fixed, intrinsically safe multi-gas and environmental monitoring station for harsh underground and industrial hazardous areas, combining centralised monitoring with hot-swappable sensing modules.
The Trolex TX9165 Sentro 8 provides fixed, high-accuracy monitoring of multiple gases and key environmental parameters in demanding mining, tunnelling and heavy industrial applications. It consolidates gas and non-gas hazard detection into a single intrinsically safe platform, suited to complex sites where dispersed hazards and confined spaces require continuous oversight. By combining robust construction, intelligent alarms, flexible sensor architecture and integrated RS485 communications, the system supports both immediate protection of personnel and assets and longer-term optimisation of ventilation, process control and maintenance strategies across large, distributed facilities.

Overview of Trolex TX9165 Sentro 8
Comprehensive Fixed Monitoring for Complex, High-Risk Sites
The Trolex TX9165 Sentro 8 is designed as a centralised fixed monitoring platform where multiple single-gas detectors would be difficult to manage and maintain. It supports simultaneous monitoring of up to eight gases, including typical combinations such as oxygen, methane, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulphide, along with other toxic and flammable hazards as required. In addition, it accepts multiple remote sensors, extending coverage beyond the main station to reach drifts, headings, tunnels and remote plant areas from a single monitoring point.
By consolidating detection into one configurable station, the Sentro 8 reduces the need for separate instruments and associated cabling, power and maintenance. It delivers continuous monitoring for both acute leaks and gradual ambient changes, helping operators manage overall environmental risk across underground mines, tunnels, underground storage and large process installations.
Intrinsically Safe, Rugged Construction for Hazardous Environments
The TX9165 Sentro 8 incorporates an intrinsically safe design suitable for Group I hazardous underground mining areas, supporting safe operation in explosive atmospheres while maintaining low power consumption and zero sparking. Its dual-wall IP65 housing provides high impact strength together with dust and moisture resistance, enabling long-term fixed installation in arduous environments. Additional IP54-rated gas ports protect gas inlets from contamination, while gas port blanking allows unused ports to be safely sealed and configurations to be tailored to each site’s hazards.
An ingress-proof keypad and sealed enclosure protect the electronics from dust and moisture ingress and allow local operation without opening the housing. Storage and operating temperature ranges are aligned with typical industrial and underground mine conditions, making the detector suitable for applications such as mining, tunnelling, shale gas operations, underground transportation, underground storage, process plants, utilities and oil and gas facilities.
Flexible Multi-Gas and Environmental Sensing Architecture
At the heart of the Sentro 8 is a scalable architecture that combines multi-gas detection with broader environmental and process monitoring. Up to eight gas channels can be configured per station, while the system can simultaneously track parameters such as ambient temperature, ventilation, air velocity, airflow, pressure, humidity, vibration, speed and rotation. Up to four ports can be specifically allocated to ambient temperature, ventilation and air velocity, giving detailed insight into air quality and movement in critical locations.
The platform supports both local and remote sensors, including Trolex environmental rModules, so sensing points can be positioned exactly where hazards arise while centralising indication and control. This unified approach to gas and non-gas monitoring simplifies overall system architecture, supports more informed ventilation and process decisions, and provides a richer data set to support risk assessments and preventive maintenance.
Safe, Low-Downtime Maintenance with Hot-Swappable eModules
The TX9165 Sentro 8 uses quick-fit, hot-swappable, pre-calibrated eModule sensing cartridges to streamline servicing. Sensors can be replaced or reconfigured for different gas types without powering down the station, and without opening live enclosures, supporting safe maintenance in hazardous zones and helping to reduce permit requirements, call-outs and downtime.
Because the eModules are pre-calibrated, sites can standardise spares across multiple stations and rotate modules through routine maintenance without taking monitoring points offline. The robust fixed-station design means detectors remain in place once installed, further supporting predictable servicing schedules and minimising operational disruption.
Clear Local Indication and Intelligent Alarm Management
An integrated LCD display provides clear local readout of gas concentrations and environmental conditions, enabling frontline personnel to verify conditions at a glance. High-intensity audible sounders and LED visual alarms give immediate, easily recognisable warnings of hazardous conditions, even in noisy and low-visibility environments.
Configurable alarm set points allow thresholds to be tuned to site-specific requirements, balancing early warning against the risk of nuisance alarms. Programmable relays support advanced alarm handling and control logic, enabling functions such as automatic ventilation control, equipment shutdown or mode selection. On-device programmable functions allow these strategies to be configured locally via the ingress-proof keypad, without external tools.
Networked Monitoring, Data Logging and System Integration
The Trolex TX9165 Sentro 8 is designed for integration into modern, connected safety and control systems. Its RS485 MODBUS interface enables multiple stations and remote sensors to be networked over a single data cable, reducing cabling complexity and installation costs across extensive sites. As monitoring requirements evolve, additional sensors or Sentro 8 stations can be added to build out a scalable monitoring network managed from a master computer or central control room.
Each sensing module incorporates data logging capability, with logs retrievable via RS485 for analysis in PC-based software or within SCADA systems. This supports trend analysis, incident investigation, compliance reporting and ongoing optimisation of ventilation and process control, turning continuous monitoring data into actionable insight for safety and operations teams.
Easy Installation and Long-Term Reliability
Practical mounting features, including M6 mounting holes and compatibility with Unistrut rails, make the Sentro 8 straightforward to install securely in confined or difficult locations. Gas port blanking and flexible sensor allocation help engineers configure each station precisely to the hazards present, while additional RS485 connectivity supports future expansion.
Certified safety, robust mechanical design, environmental protection and proven sensing technology combine to deliver high reliability and accuracy over long service intervals. This helps minimise false alarms and missed events, supports regulatory compliance, and provides confidence that critical underground and industrial areas are continuously monitored for both gas and wider environmental risks.
