Description

Honeywell Midas is a compact extractive gas detector for over 35 toxic, ambient and flammable gases in advanced manufacturing and research environments.

Honeywell Midas is a compact, extractive gas detection system for high‑tech semiconductor, industrial and laboratory facilities. It continuously draws samples from remote locations to monitor critical gases while keeping the detector away from harsh or inaccessible areas. Factory‑calibrated, plug‑and‑play sensor cartridges, an intuitive local interface and browser‑based remote access streamline operation and servicing. With integrated Ethernet, analogue outputs and relays, plus support for PoE and optional LonWorks modules, Honeywell Midas fits easily into modern control architectures and helps standardise fixed gas monitoring across complex sites.

AT A GLANCE

  • Wide gas coverage and platform flexibility: Detects more than 35 gases using interchangeable sensor cartridges, supporting one detector platform across multiple tools and areas.
  • Reliable safety performance: Patented flow regulation, automatic sensor health checks and temperature compensation promote stable readings in demanding industrial environments.
  • Fast installation in tight spaces: Compact metal housing, multi‑position mounting options and plug‑and‑play sensors reduce commissioning time and disruption.
  • Ready for control system integration: Relays, isolated analogue output, Modbus/TCP Ethernet and PoE simplify connection to PLCs, monitoring systems and building networks.

Overview of Honeywell Midas

High‑performance extractive monitoring for demanding applications

The Honeywell Midas gas detector is designed for high‑tech semiconductor processing, advanced industrial manufacturing, research laboratories and critical infrastructure. A robust extractive pump system draws samples from points up to 100 feet (30 m) away, enabling continuous monitoring of hazardous or hard‑to‑reach areas without placing electronics directly in the gas stream. A nominal 500 mL/min sample flow and fast transport times support rapid alarm response when process conditions change.

More than 35 sensor options allow one platform to cover a broad range of toxic, ambient and flammable gases used in semiconductor fabs, light industrial plants, university laboratories, aerospace facilities and wastewater treatment plants. Available sensor chemistries target key process gases, while optional Midas Pyrolyzer modules extend detection to challenging species and perfluorinated compounds used in advanced etch and clean processes.

Measurement stability, safety and compliance support

Patented flow regulation and robust sensing technology underpin stable, error‑resistant measurement. Reflex® automatic sensor health checks continually assess sensor integrity, and TempraSure™ temperature compensation helps maintain accuracy as ambient conditions vary. Internal air and inline particulate filters, plus optional end‑of‑line and Freon filters, protect the sampling path and sensing elements when dealing with corrosive, dusty or aggressive gas streams.

Event logging of alarms, faults and sensor history supports troubleshooting, incident review and audit requirements. CE and UKCA markings, compliance with key international safety and EMC standards and immunity to radio frequency interference make Honeywell Midas suitable for regulated, electrically noisy industrial environments where traceability and reliable performance are critical.

Streamlined installation and flexible mounting

The compact, small‑footprint metal chassis allows installation where panel space is limited, including crowded tool bays, service chases and control cabinets. Durable metal and painted steel housing and brackets suit industrial use, while support for duct, wall, DIN‑rail and bracket mounting enables consistent hardware across different tool sets and plant layouts.

The transmitter is engineered for simple, fast installation to minimise commissioning time and disruption. Accessories such as weather shields, L‑brackets, vented top covers and PoE switches help adapt the detector to site conditions, reducing the need for multiple detector types and simplifying project engineering and spares management.

Low‑touch maintenance with smart sensor cartridges

Honeywell Midas uses factory‑calibrated, plug‑and‑play sensor cartridges to reduce the frequency and complexity of field calibration. This approach shortens service interventions, reduces technician exposure at the point of use and lowers the risk of errors during replacement. Each smart cartridge stores an on‑board e‑calibration certificate, providing traceable calibration data for quality systems and regulatory documentation.

Over 35 sensor cartridge options are available, with cartridge and kit variants offering different warranty durations and configuration convenience. Sensor cartridges and transmitter kits enable cost‑effective expansion or replacement without changing the base transmitter, supporting long‑term platform standardisation. A robust, long‑life extractive pump with a typical two‑year service interval, together with clearly defined component lifetimes, supports planned maintenance programmes and predictable lifecycle costs.

Clear user interface and secure configuration

A bright multicolour backlit LCD and status LEDs provide clear indication of normal, warning and alarm states at a glance. The icon‑driven interface and four‑button keypad simplify local navigation for configuration, calibration and bump testing.

Password‑protected menu levels restrict changes to authorised personnel, helping to safeguard alarm setpoints, calibration parameters and test routines. Remote browser access over Ethernet allows authorised users to check status, adjust settings and run diagnostics from a PC or handheld device, reducing the need for physical access to the detector, particularly in crowded or restricted tool areas.

Integration with control, safety and building systems

Honeywell Midas is built for straightforward integration into both new and existing control architectures. Three built‑in Form C relays (Alarm 1, Alarm 2 and Fault) provide direct activation of external sounders, beacons and shutdown or interlock functions, supporting layered safety strategies that combine local annunciation with automated process actions.

An isolated 0–22 mA analogue output with fault and event signalling ties easily into standard control loops, while Modbus/TCP Ethernet enables digital connectivity to PLCs and plant monitoring or building management systems. Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows power and communications over a single cable, simplifying wiring in dense tool bays and retrofit projects. Optional LonWorks interface modules, including a quad gateway that connects up to four Midas transmitters, provide direct integration with LonWorks‑based building and process networks.

Proven heritage and long‑term reliability

Honeywell Midas benefits from Honeywell manufacturing quality and advanced robotics to deliver consistent detector and sensor performance over its service life. The platform builds on an established heritage of extractive gas detection technology previously supplied under the MDA Scientific brand, providing a mature, field‑proven solution for semiconductor, industrial and laboratory environments.

Combined with comprehensive documentation, clearly defined maintenance intervals and support from authorised service providers, Honeywell Midas offers a stable foundation for fixed gas detection projects and long‑term service programmes across complex, multi‑site operations.
