RAE Systems QRAE 3 is a rugged, wireless multi-gas detector for hazardous environments, combining flexible sensing with man-down protection.
The RAE Systems QRAE 3 is a compact, portable multi-gas detector for industrial and emergency teams operating in hazardous areas. It supports one to four field-replaceable sensors to monitor oxygen, combustible gases and a wide range of toxic gases in changing conditions. A concussion-proof housing, strong ingress protection and wide environmental tolerances support reliable operation in tough field use. Integrated wireless networking, man-down alarm functionality and clear five-way alerting provide safety managers with real-time visibility of worker exposure and status across complex sites.
For detailed technical data, consult the Specifications tab.
The RAE Systems QRAE 3 provides a versatile multi-gas platform that can be configured with one to four sensors to match site-specific risks. It supports continuous monitoring of oxygen, combustible gases and multiple toxic gases, with additional toxic sensor options available to extend coverage as processes or regulations change. This flexibility allows organisations to standardise on a single detector family for confined space entry, leak detection, plant maintenance, shutdowns, turnarounds and emergency response, reducing training effort and spares inventory.
Field-replaceable catalytic bead, oxygen and electrochemical toxic sensors help maintain availability and extend instrument life. Instead of retiring detectors as requirements evolve, safety teams can swap or reconfigure sensors to address new gas hazards while keeping a consistent user interface and operating procedure.
The QRAE 3 is engineered for demanding industrial and emergency conditions. A strong, protective, concussion-proof housing resists everyday knocks and drops, while IP65 (pumped) and IP67 (diffusion) ingress protection ratings defend against water and dust. High immunity to electromagnetic and electrostatic interference supports stable performance in electrically noisy facilities, helping to minimise nuisance alarms.
A wide operating temperature range and broad humidity tolerance enable deployment from cold outdoor locations to hot, humid process areas. Compact and lightweight designs for both diffusion and pumped variants support comfortable full-shift wear, whether on belts, pockets or harnesses, during long incidents, remediation projects or extended site work.
With the optional RF modem, the RAE Systems QRAE 3 becomes part of a connected safety system rather than a standalone device. Its advanced Mesh wireless capability enables real-time transmission of gas readings and alarm status to remote monitoring points. Integration with the ProRAE Guardian Safety System allows centralised oversight of multiple instruments across a site, while compatibility with the EchoView Host Mini-Controller supports closed-loop monitoring at the scene.
An integrated man-down alarm monitors for lack of motion and triggers both local and remote alerts if a worker is incapacitated. This is combined with five-way notification: a loud 95 dB audible alarm, strong vibration, bright LEDs, clear on-screen indications and wireless alarm signalling. Together, these features help ensure that dangerous gas exposures or personnel emergencies are identified quickly, even in noisy or visually cluttered environments.
The QRAE 3 is designed to present critical information clearly under pressure. A large monochrome graphical display with backlighting and an icon-driven interface provides direct readings of gas concentrations alongside exposure metrics such as STEL, TWA, peak and minimum values. Automatic or on-demand screen rotation supports easy viewing whether the detector is worn, clipped or handheld.
An intuitive two-button keypad enables operation with gloved hands. On-screen status icons show battery level, pump status (on pumped models), wireless on/off state, wireless reception quality and man-down or policy enforcement indicators, giving immediate confirmation that the instrument is configured and functioning as intended. User-selectable alarm behaviour (latching, non-latching or manual override) allows alignment with site-specific safety procedures.
The RAE Systems QRAE 3 is available in both diffusion and pumped versions to support different working methods. The compact diffusion model is optimised for personal monitoring, keeping weight and bulk low for routine use in oil and gas, industrial safety, fire and emergency response, energy production and environmental remediation.
For pre-entry checks, remote sampling and investigations where direct access is hazardous, the pumped model incorporates a built-in pump capable of drawing samples through tubing over significant distances. This capability supports confined space entry, leak surveys, CBRNE response, clandestine laboratory assessment, fire overhaul, residential call-outs and urban search and rescue, enabling gas conditions to be assessed from safer positions.
The QRAE 3 is designed to minimise maintenance effort and downtime. Easy access to the pump, sensors, filters and battery compartment simplifies routine servicing and sensor replacement. Two-point zero and span calibration can be carried out manually in the field or automated via the AutoRAE 2 Automatic Test and Calibration System for fast bump testing and scheduled calibrations with limited technician time.
Continuous datalogging over extended periods captures detailed exposure histories from up to four sensors, with user-configurable logging intervals to balance data resolution and storage requirements. Data download and instrument configuration via the travel charger and PC, supported by ProRAE Studio II software, assist with record-keeping, fleet configuration and compliance audits.
Comprehensive multi-language support on the instrument and within associated software helps organisations deploy consistent gas detection practices across international workforces. The detector is certified for use in hazardous locations in multiple regions, enabling standardisation on a single platform in sites classified due to flammable gases, vapours or combustible dust.
Extended warranties on the device and key sensors, together with the proven heritage of the PGM-2500 / PGM-2560 series, support long-term reliability planning. Monitor-only configurations, sampling accessories, confined space kits and multiple carrying options allow safety teams to tailor the QRAE 3 to specific tasks while maintaining a common instrument family across the fleet.
