Carbon disulphide (CS₂) is a volatile, colourless liquid commonly used in the manufacture of viscose rayon, cellophane, rubber, and pesticides. Despite its industrial importance, it is a highly flammable and toxic substance. Short-term exposure can cause headaches, dizziness, and mood changes, while long-term exposure has been associated with nervous system effects and cardiovascular disorders. Because it evaporates quickly and produces explosive vapours, accurate and continuous monitoring is critical in facilities where CS₂ is handled.
