Trolex XD1+ is a compact personal dust monitor for real-time respirable dust exposure control in demanding and potentially hazardous workplaces.

Trolex XD1+ is a real-time personal dust monitor that places accurate respirable dust exposure data directly on each worker. By continuously tracking multiple particulate size fractions and overall exposure, it supports better control of harmful fine and coarse dust in construction, mining, tunnelling, demolition, quarrying, manufacturing and other industrial environments. The compact, lightweight and self-contained design reduces maintenance and ownership costs, while high-visibility audio-visual and vibration alarms, robust data logging and wireless connectivity help safety teams turn dust monitoring into an everyday, evidence-led control measure.

AT A GLANCE

  • Real-time personal dust monitoring: Continuous measurement of respirable dust and multiple particulate size fractions for individual-level exposure assessment.
  • Truly wearable, rugged design: Compact, lightweight, IP-rated housing with flexible mounting options for everyday use in harsh industrial environments.
  • Configurable alarms and indicators: Customisable STEL/TWA thresholds with loud audible, bright visual and vibration alerts plus clear status icons.
  • Integrated data and connectivity: Onboard logging, Bluetooth and software/app integration for analysis, reporting and fleet management.

Overview of Trolex XD1+

Real-time personal monitoring for respirable dust control

Trolex XD1+ shifts dust control from periodic surveys to continuous, personal monitoring. Using optical light-scatter photometer (OPC) technology and an optically refined detection chamber, it measures particles from fine to coarse dust in real time across multiple particulate size fractions. This allows safety and occupational hygiene teams to capture both instantaneous concentrations and cumulative exposure, providing clear visibility of peak events, shift-long trends and overall risk for each worker rather than just area averages.

High measurement accuracy, combined with advanced processing algorithms capable of detecting, counting and sizing very large numbers of particles per minute, delivers reliable data for exposure assessment, risk evaluation and control verification.

Wearable, robust design for demanding environments

Weighing around 170 g and significantly smaller than many traditional dust monitors, Trolex XD1+ is designed to be truly wearable throughout a shift. Its compact footprint and low profile support mounting to clothing, harnesses or equipment via a range of clips, studs and brackets, without restricting movement or interfering with normal tasks. The robust PC/ABS housing, protective boot and ingress protection suited to tough conditions enable dependable operation in construction, mining, tunnelling, demolition, quarrying, manufacturing and general industrial environments.

The self-contained architecture means there are no pumps, filters, tubes or consumable parts to block, replace or manage. This reduces the number of components in the field, simplifies daily checks and makes it practical to standardise personal dust monitoring across a wide range of roles.

Clear alarms to prompt immediate action

Trolex XD1+ is engineered to support timely interventions when dust levels rise. Customisable STEL (Short-Term Exposure Limit) and TWA (Time-Weighted Average) alarms allow configuration to regulatory and site-specific limits, including options such as latching behaviour where required. When thresholds are exceeded, the monitor activates a combination of loud audible alarms, flashing visual icons and vibration alerts so that warnings are noticed even in noisy or high-distraction areas.

Dedicated status indicators for STEL, TWA and battery condition enable at-a-glance checks before and during a shift, helping to prevent non-operational devices from entering service. By tracking both short spikes and longer-term exposure, the device supports targeted actions such as task rotation, process changes, ventilation adjustments and review of dust suppression or PPE.

Low-maintenance operation and extended run time

The self-contained design of the Trolex XD1+ is focused on lowering maintenance overheads. With no external pumps, tubing or replaceable filters, there are no routine consumables and minimal risk of blockages or leaks. An on-device self-test on activation, supported by simple manual or periodic compliance checks that take only a few minutes every few months, helps maintain confidence in ongoing performance without extensive workshop time.

A rechargeable lithium-ion battery delivers around 16 hours of operation, covering full shifts including overtime. Fast USB-C charging typically restores a full charge in approximately three hours, supporting quick turnaround between shifts and efficient utilisation of multi-unit fleets.

Data, connectivity and reporting for compliance and optimisation

Beyond immediate alarms, Trolex XD1+ provides a strong data platform for occupational hygiene, compliance and management reporting. Around 1 GB of onboard memory supports up to roughly six months of logging at default sampling intervals, with configurable logging intervals to balance time resolution against storage capacity. Data can be downloaded and analysed using Trolex BreatheLITE PC software, enabling review of exposure patterns, generation of compliance and management reports, and efficient configuration of multiple devices.

Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity and integration with the BreatheMOBILE app provide live and historical data viewing, threshold configuration, reporting and alarm review via smartphones or tablets. NFC/RFID pairing makes it possible to associate individual devices with specific workers, locations or tasks, enabling more accurate linkage between exposure profiles and real-world activities.

Support for common occupational hygiene units (µg/m³ and mg/m³) and monitoring of both peak and shift-long exposure help organisations demonstrate and document alignment with occupational exposure limits and regulatory expectations such as OEL, OSHA, HSE and MSHA frameworks. Accurate, granular data also supports verification of engineering controls, optimisation of dust suppression measures and more efficient allocation of PPE and job rotation strategies.

Flexible deployment and integration into safety programmes

The Trolex XD1+ operates across temperature and humidity ranges suited to typical indoor and outdoor industrial applications, with ingress protection and a ruggedised housing that withstand challenging, dusty conditions. It can be deployed as a single device for high-risk tasks or as part of wider team solutions, including multi-user packs with combined data and charging docks.

A range of accessories, such as compliance kits, protective cases, mounting options and docking solutions, supports consistent use of the same monitoring platform across different tasks and sites, helping to simplify training and reduce inventory complexity. When integrated with compatible systems and apps, Trolex XD1+ can support cloud or remote-monitoring workflows, enabling centralised oversight of dust exposure across multiple locations.

With both purchase and hire options available from some providers, together with technical support, training and demonstration services, Trolex XD1+ offers a practical route to embedding personal, real-time dust monitoring into both short-term projects and long-term occupational health strategies.
