Overview of Crowcon UNOIQ
Modular gas detection that adapts to changing hazards
Crowcon UNOIQ uses a modular, future‑ready architecture that differs from traditional disposable single‑gas detectors. Serviceable plug‑and‑play sensor trays arrive pre‑calibrated, so detectors can be deployed rapidly and switched to different gases on‑site without manufacturer intervention. This helps organisations respond quickly to changing process conditions, maintenance tasks or site requirements while keeping the same instrument in service.
The platform supports multiple sensor technologies, including electrochemical, infrared (IR), pellistor, photoionisation detector (PID) and Molecular Property Spectrometer (MPS®), covering toxic gases, flammable gases, oxygen and VOCs. UNOIQ can be upgraded from single‑gas to dual‑gas detection mid‑life, extending asset value and supporting standardisation on a single portable platform rather than maintaining multiple detector models and spares.
Outstanding runtime with low ownership cost
UNOIQ is designed to maximise field time and minimise time on charge. For toxic and oxygen sensors, the rechargeable battery delivers up to 65 days of continuous runtime, equivalent to around six months of typical 8‑hour shifts. Under typical usage patterns this means only about four battery charges are required over two years, significantly reducing charging interruptions, dock congestion and the risk of instruments being unavailable.
A recharge time of under four hours helps detectors return to service quickly between shifts. Rechargeable lithium battery technology removes the ongoing cost and waste associated with disposable cells, while long‑life sensor options, including extended‑life oxygen sensors, further reduce replacement frequency. When combined with modular servicing and the ability to redeploy the same detector across sites or tasks simply by changing sensor trays, UNOIQ delivers a notably low total cost of ownership over its service life.
Connected ecosystem for automated compliance and fleet control
Crowcon UNOIQ forms part of the wider Crowcon IQ ecosystem, enabling connected safety workflows rather than stand‑alone instruments. Wireless connectivity via Bluetooth and NFC links detectors to the cloud‑hosted Crowcon Connect platform for real‑time visibility of alarms, status and, where configured, location information. Centralised dashboards, configuration tools and reporting functions support fleet‑wide management, from firmware updates and alarm setpoints to compliance tracking.
Integration with IQhub docking stations enables “dock and go” maintenance. Automated bump tests can complete in under 10 seconds and full calibrations in under 30 seconds, sharply reducing routine maintenance windows and manual handling. All tests, calibrations, alarms and device usage are captured automatically in Crowcon Connect to simplify audits and prove compliance. Where docking stations are not available, manual bump testing and calibration can still be performed on the detector or via PC software, maintaining flexibility across different sites.
Rugged, wearable protection for harsh industrial environments
UNOIQ is compact, lightweight and designed for continuous wear on a belt, harness or work clothing, supporting all‑day use without excessive bulk or weight. Despite its small footprint, the detector is engineered for harsh conditions, with high ingress protection ratings (IP66 and IP68) against dust and water and a 6‑metre drop test rating for resilience in demanding industrial and field environments.
Hazardous‑area approvals, including CSA, ATEX, IECEx and INMETRO (or pending), confirm suitability for use in explosive atmospheres and high‑risk zones. A broad operating temperature range, down to approximately 9-20°C and up to around +55°C (higher on some variants), together with wide humidity tolerance, supports reliable operation across varied climates and both indoor and outdoor locations in sectors such as utilities, manufacturing, construction, energy and oil and gas.
Clear information and unmistakable alarms
UNOIQ provides fast, unambiguous feedback when gas levels change. Sensors offer rapid response times (often with T90 values below 10 seconds, sensor‑dependent) to support early warning of dangerous concentrations. The backlit segment display or custom LCD, depending on model, shows real‑time gas readings, status icons and calibration indicators, remaining legible in low‑light areas such as tunnels, plants and night‑time operations.
Multiple alarm modes help align with regulatory and internal requirements, including high, low, time‑weighted average (TWA) and short‑term exposure limit (STEL) thresholds. Visual LEDs, an audible alarm of around 95 dB and a vibrating alarm operate together to ensure warnings are noticed, even in noisy or visually challenging conditions. Visual indicators for calibration due and battery status further assist in keeping instruments in service and compliant.
Simplified maintenance, data and asset management
UNOIQ is designed to reduce friction in day‑to‑day gas detection management. Automated test routines via IQhub, with time‑stamped results stored in Crowcon Connect, give safety teams a live view of each detector’s bump test and calibration status. Onboard data logging stores up to around 500 events, with some variants providing extensive time‑stamped logs to support incident investigation and long‑term record‑keeping.
A wide range of wearable accessories, including belt docks, Velcro loops, armbands and harness mounts, allows instruments to be positioned for both comfort and optimum exposure to ambient air. USB‑A and USB‑C charging options support flexible power management on site, in vehicles or at remote locations, while optional aspirator and flow plate accessories enable specific sampling setups where required. Multilingual or English‑first interfaces and documentation support roll‑out across international workforces, and approximate two‑year warranty coverage on the monitor (with separate sensor warranty) provides additional assurance of product quality.
Future‑ready platform for connected safety programmes
Crowcon UNOIQ is well suited to organisations operating multiple sites or facing evolving hazard profiles. Standardising on a single portable platform that supports both toxic and flammable gas applications, with segmented product options for standard and deep trays, simplifies training, spares management and fleet configuration. The ability to switch target gases quickly, upgrade to dual‑gas capability and integrate with other Crowcon IQ devices, such as DuoIQ and DetectiveIQ, provides a clear progression path towards a fully connected, site‑wide safety strategy.
By combining rugged field performance, long runtime, modular sensors and cloud connectivity, UNOIQ positions portable gas detection as an integrated part of digital safety and asset management, rather than a consumable item, helping organisations strengthen worker protection while controlling lifecycle costs.
