Description

Crowcon Gasmaster is a compact multi-channel gas and fire control panel for industrial and commercial sites, combining flexibility with clear centralised status.

Crowcon Gasmaster is a compact, wall-mounted gas detection control panel that centralises gas, fire and environmental sampling status on one clear interface. Monitoring up to four detectors in mixed configurations, it brings together signals from gas detectors, fire and flame devices and sampling systems into a single, easily understood view. Intuitive front-panel operation, flexible analogue, relay and Modbus outputs, and a modular design support straightforward installation, scalable protection and efficient operation across a wide range of industrial and commercial environments.

AT A GLANCE

  • Flexible multi-channel platform: Monitors up to four gas, fire, flame and sampling detectors in virtually any combination from one compact panel.
  • Clear, centralised status: Large back-lit LCD, status LEDs and integral sounder present all channel readings and alarms at a glance.
  • Straightforward integration: Analogue outputs, configurable relays and RS-485 Modbus support connection to indicators, alarms and plant control systems.
  • Efficient operation and maintenance: Front-panel configuration, multilingual menus and event logging help reduce setup time, training needs and routine service effort.

Overview of Crowcon Gasmaster

Centralised Control for Gas and Fire Safety

Crowcon Gasmaster consolidates multiple safety signals into a single, compact wall-mounted control panel, allowing safety teams to view gas, fire and environmental sampling status in one place. Available in one to four-channel versions, it monitors 4–20 mA gas detectors, mV pellistor flammable gas detectors, fire detector loops, flame detectors and Crowcon Environmental Sampling Units in almost any combination. This centralisation reduces the need for multiple panels, simplifies cabling and provides a clear focal point for alarms, faults and warnings.

The large back-lit LCD displays live gas levels from all connected detectors simultaneously, while status LEDs and an integral 85 dB sounder provide immediate visual and audible alerting. Gas readings can be presented in a choice of units, supporting alignment with site standards and regulatory requirements and making on-the-spot interpretation easier for operators.

Flexible Integration with New and Existing Systems

Gasmaster is designed to integrate readily into both new builds and retrofit projects. It supports a wide range of input types, including 4–20 mA detectors (current sink or source), mV pellistor devices, conventional fire detector loops and digital contacts from compatible flame detectors. This flexibility enables a single panel type to cover gas, fire and sampling applications across the site.

On the output side, each channel can provide an analogue signal for interfacing with external indicators or control equipment, while configurable relay outputs handle low alarm, high alarm and fault signalling. Adjustable hysteresis on low alarms assists in avoiding nuisance relay operation. The integrated RS-485 Modbus RTU link allows straightforward connection to DCS, SCADA and PLC systems so that Gasmaster can operate as a local front-end while feeding critical data into wider plant control architectures. It can function as a standalone solution or as part of larger multi-panel and building management system designs.

Configurable Alarms and System Control

Each Gasmaster channel features two independently configurable alarm levels, enabling trip points to be set in line with site-specific safety philosophies and processes. Customisable alarm messages allow each alarm to reference a specific detector name or location, helping response teams reach the correct area quickly when an event occurs.

Relays can be configured as energised or de-energised, and as latching or non-latching, supporting different fail-safe strategies. Remote inhibit and remote reset inputs allow alarms and panel functions to be controlled from other key locations on site, aiding centralised supervision and coordinated response.

Efficient Operation, Commissioning and Maintenance

Gasmaster has been engineered for rapid installation and straightforward commissioning. Its modular architecture means only the required number of input modules needs to be purchased, with the option to add channels later on Gasmaster 4 versions for future expansion. Accessories such as panel-mounting steel brackets, an auxiliary power unit and engineer’s communications leads provide additional flexibility in how the panel is deployed and maintained.

An intuitive, multilingual menu system supports a broad range of language options, helping reduce training requirements on international or multi-language sites. All key tasks—including configuration, adjustment, testing and re-calibration—are carried out from the front panel without specialist tools, which helps shorten service windows and minimise disruption to operations.

An integrated event log stores time-stamped alarms, faults and interventions to support diagnostics, incident review and compliance records. Optional PC communications and software enable fast upload and adjustment of configurations, as well as event log download, which simplifies reporting and audit preparation.

Robust Performance and Safety-Critical Capability

Housed in a rugged enclosure with a cast aluminium back-box and flame-retardant ABS front cover, Gasmaster is suited to demanding industrial environments. IP65 ingress protection, a wide operating temperature and humidity range, and EMC approvals support reliable operation in harsh and electrically noisy locations. Internal backup batteries are fitted as standard to maintain monitoring capability during mains outages, while an optional auxiliary power unit provides additional 24 Vdc capacity and extended backup where required.

Where specified, validation to recognised functional safety standards supports use in safety-critical applications. Gasmaster can also form part of intrinsically safe systems in non-hazardous areas when installed in accordance with the relevant requirements.

Versatile Application Across Industries

Crowcon Gasmaster is suitable for industrial plants, commercial buildings, oil and gas sites, chemical facilities and water treatment plants. By bringing gas and fire detector information together, providing configurable alarms and offering flexible integration paths, it delivers an adaptable, cost-effective control platform that can evolve with changing plant layouts and safety strategies.
