Description

Uniphos Kwiksense Pro is a smart fixed gas detector for toxic, oxygen and flammable gases in hazardous industrial areas, combining universal plug-and-play sensors with non-intrusive calibration to minimise downtime.

Uniphos Kwiksense Pro is a digital fixed gas transmitter for continuous monitoring of toxic gases, oxygen and flammable gases in demanding process and manufacturing environments. Its universal transmitter accepts multiple sensor technologies through pre-calibrated, plug-and-play smart sensors, supporting wide gas coverage on a single platform. With robust hazardous-area certifications, flexible analogue and digital outputs and low-maintenance operation, it supports safer operation, simpler standardisation and lower total cost of ownership across plant-wide gas detection networks.

AT A GLANCE

  • One platform, many gases: Universal transmitter accepts multiple sensor technologies to cover oxygen, toxic, combustible and VOC hazards on a single detector family.
  • Fast, low-risk maintenance: Interchangeable, pre-calibrated smart sensors and non-intrusive magnetic calibration reduce permits, site visits and production downtime.
  • Ready for modern control systems: 4–20 mA output with MODBUS-RTU and optional HART simplifies connection to DCS, PLC and third-party safety systems.
  • Built for hazardous areas: Flameproof, high‑IP housings with international hazardous-area certifications and SIL2 variants support safety-instrumented applications.

Overview of Uniphos Kwiksense Pro

Universal gas detection platform for complex plants

Uniphos Kwiksense Pro provides a single, standardised platform for fixed gas detection across diverse processes and locations. The universal transmitter supports electrochemical, pellistor, NDIR, PID, solid state and MPS sensors, so the same detector type can monitor toxic gases, oxygen, combustible gases and VOCs. Support for more than 25 gases, with multiple range and resolution options, allows each detection point to be configured precisely to the relevant process risk, from trace toxic leaks to high-range flammable atmospheres.

This breadth, combined with high- and low-range options for the same gas, enables standardisation on one detector family across storage tanks, process units, loading areas, utilities and confined spaces. Standardisation helps reduce spares inventories, simplify training and streamline project engineering while retaining application-specific performance.

Smart sensors that reduce downtime and cost

Kwiksense Pro uses interchangeable smart sensor modules that store their own calibration data. Sensors are supplied pre-calibrated and plug directly into the detector without tools, specialist equipment or engineer call-outs. This transportable calibration concept allows rapid field replacement, shortening service windows and keeping production running.

Service detectors in classified areas: Non-intrusive configuration and calibration via a magnetic wand and local interface avoids opening the enclosure in the hazardous area. This approach helps reduce permit delays, limits hot-work requirements and allows one-person servicing, cutting maintenance overheads and minimising exposure for technicians.

Performance and reliability in harsh, hazardous environments

The field-mounted Kwiksense Pro is designed for demanding industrial conditions. Flameproof, explosion-proof housings in cast aluminium alloy or stainless steel provide mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, with options suited to marine, offshore and cleanliness-critical installations. A high ingress protection rating supports outdoor and wash-down use, while the wide operating temperature and humidity envelope (sensor dependent) allows reliable operation in extreme climates and hot process areas.

Hazardous-area certifications to major international standards, along with additional regional and marine approvals on selected models, support global deployment. SIL2-certified variants enable use in safety-instrumented systems where quantified risk reduction is required, and temperature class T4 options extend suitability for higher ambient temperatures.

Seamless integration with control, safety and shutdown systems

Kwiksense Pro interfaces readily with both new and existing safety architectures. The industry-standard 4–20 mA analogue output connects directly to most gas detection controllers and safety PLCs. MODBUS-RTU over RS‑485 provides digital communication for centralised monitoring and configuration, and optional HART over the 4–20 mA loop supports advanced diagnostics and remote parameter changes.

Three configurable, potential-free relays can drive local beacons and sounders or interface directly with ventilation and shutdown systems. Dual configurable alarm setpoints per channel support graded warning and trip functions tailored to each area. Flexible 3- or 4-wire connection schemes and multiple cable entry options simplify electrical design across different plant standards.

The detector integrates with dedicated Uniphos controllers as well as third-party DCS and PLC systems, making it suitable for plant-wide networks in oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical, marine, fertiliser, nuclear, iron and steel and other heavy industries.

Operator-friendly local and remote indication

A bright OLED display provides clear, real-time gas concentration readings at the point of risk, while tri-colour status LEDs indicate normal operation, fault and alarm states at a glance. This supports fast interpretation during commissioning, routine checks and incident response.

Where detectors are mounted in difficult-to-access positions, the optional KwikSense RD remote display mirrors key outputs and certifications, allowing operators to view status and interact with the detector from a more convenient and safer location.

Flexible installation and application coverage

The compact, robust housing, low power consumption and diffusion sampling capability support straightforward installation and low ongoing running costs. A comprehensive accessory range, including splash guards, rain shields, gas collection cones, duct-mount kits, canopies, pipe-mount kits and flow-through adapters, enables consistent hardware to be used in open areas, ducts, process skids and other challenging locations, reducing the need for multiple detector types.

Support for oxygen monitoring, alongside toxic, combustible and VOC detection, extends coverage from confined spaces and inerting systems to combustion control and leak detection around process equipment. Kwiksense Pro therefore forms a scalable, unified platform for fixed gas detection across complex industrial sites.
