Senko SGT

The Senko SGT is designed to deliver dependable single-gas protection without the ongoing servicing burden of traditional portable detectors. An internal primary lithium battery powers continuous 24/7 operation for the full two-year service life, based on typical daily alarm exposure. Because the detector is fully disposable, there is no need to replace batteries or sensors in the field, reducing labour, spare parts handling and the risk of maintenance errors.

This fixed-life concept simplifies planning and budgeting. Safety teams can synchronise procurement and replacement cycles using the clear remaining lifetime indication, helping to maintain uninterrupted coverage and avoid gaps caused by units being taken out of service for repair.

The Senko SGT is engineered for harsh industrial and hazardous locations, including oil and gas, petrochemical, utilities, wastewater and manufacturing sites. Its rubberised polycarbonate enclosure is splash-proof and impact-resistant, and is rated to IP67 for complete dust ingress protection and temporary immersion. This robustness supports reliable performance in confined spaces, underground manholes and other high-risk areas where gas pockets may form.

Explosion-proof construction and global intrinsic safety approvals, including ATEX, CE and other major schemes, enable use in hazardous areas classified due to flammable gases, vapours or combustible dust, while the detector itself focuses on toxic and oxygen hazards. A wide operating temperature range and broad non-condensing humidity tolerance across toxic and oxygen versions ensure consistent performance in typical indoor and outdoor conditions.

Electrochemical sensor technology continuously measures the selected target gas, providing real-time detection of oxygen deficiency or enrichment and common toxic gas risks. The widescreen digital LCD presents live gas concentration together with key status information, including alarm indication, calibration status, battery condition and remaining service life. A backlight supports easy reading in poor lighting, confined spaces and night-time operations.

When gas levels reach preset low or high thresholds, the Senko SGT activates a multi-mode alarm system. An audible alarm of approximately 90 dB at close range combines with bright red flashing LEDs and a built-in vibrating alarm. This triple indication helps ensure warnings are recognised promptly in noisy plants, underground locations or environments where hearing protection is mandatory.

The detector’s compact, lightweight format and sturdy crocodile or belt clip support secure attachment near the breathing zone on clothing, belts or collars. This encourages consistent wearing throughout the shift without adding significant bulk or weight. The housing and clip design are optimised for everyday industrial use, supporting both routine tasks and confined space entry work.

Operation is intentionally straightforward. A single button manages the main functions, reducing training requirements and lowering the risk of user error. With no charging infrastructure needed and no battery handling on site, deployment across large teams becomes simpler, and detectors remain ready for immediate use between shifts.

The Senko SGT range addresses key workplace hazards by offering variants for oxygen monitoring as well as for a wide selection of toxic gases, including common confined space and process-related risks. Oxygen models are suitable for monitoring both deficiency and enrichment, supporting protection against asphyxiation and combustion-related risk where oxygen levels may deviate from normal. Toxic gas models target frequently encountered hazards in production, maintenance and utility environments.

Sensor ranges and standard alarm setpoints are configured for each gas type to align with good practice and regulatory expectations. This allows safety managers to match detector variants to specific tasks and locations, standardising on a single platform while addressing different gas threats across sites.

Although the Senko SGT requires minimal day-to-day attention, it fully supports routine functional checks and calibration. Compatible docking stations enable quick bump tests and calibration, with multi-docking options allowing up to four detectors to be processed at once. This consolidated approach helps streamline compliance routines and reduces the time technicians spend handling individual instruments.

The IR Link accessory extends control to a PC-based environment, allowing configuration of site-specific settings, alarm thresholds, calibration parameters and data management. The detector automatically logs up to 30 alarm or event records, which can be accessed even after acknowledgement. These records support incident investigation, internal reporting and external audits.

Automatic sensor error detection and self-check routines provide ongoing assurance of performance, while docking-based maintenance tracking supports efficient fleet oversight. Supplied calibration caps, manuals and test certificates help simplify commissioning and documentation.
