The detector simultaneously monitors the four standard confined space gases – combustibles (LEL), oxygen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulphide – plus a fifth super-toxic gas. Miniature toxic gas sensors and a tiny infrared sensor for carbon dioxide enable a wide choice of additional target gases within the same small footprint, allowing safety managers to configure the instrument for site-specific risks.

The GX-3R Pro uses a four-sensor architecture to measure five gases, optimising both instrument size and measurement performance. A long-life electrochemical oxygen sensor delivers improved stability and reliability, helping to reduce drift and extend calibration intervals. The Riken Keiki GX-3R Pro combines intrinsically safe, explosion-proof construction with high ingress protection against dust, powerful water jets and immersion. Tested drop resistance supports daily use in tough conditions such as construction sites, offshore platforms, steel plants, utilities and underground plant rooms. This robustness reduces the risk of damage-related downtime and replacement costs.

A wide operating temperature and humidity range (non-condensing) enables reliable operation from cold outdoor locations to hot plant rooms, humid process areas and marine environments. International explosion-proof approvals, together with an available marine type-approved version, allow the same detector platform to be used across global operations and on vessels, simplifying standardisation for multinational fleets.

The GX-3R Pro is designed to provide continuous protection through extended shifts, with up to around 40 hours of operation in long-battery mode. Multiple power choices – including a lithium-ion rechargeable pack, fast-charge nickel-metal hydride pack and AAA alkaline battery pack – give sites flexibility to align energy strategy with existing charging facilities, remote locations or emergency preparedness policies.

Supporting accessories address both individual users and larger deployments. Single-unit charging cradles, interconnectable charging bases, an optional five-unit charging cable and multi-charger options help optimise bench space and charging density. Optional calibration and bump test stations, such as automated dock solutions, streamline routine function tests and calibrations, supporting consistent compliance across a fleet.

The Riken Keiki GX-3R Pro provides clear, multi-channel alerts when gas hazards or instrument faults occur. Triple alarm notification – bright visual indicators, a loud 95 dB buzzer (at 30 cm) and strong vibration – helps ensure alarms are noticed in noisy, high-PPE industrial environments. Three preset alarm levels per gas plus an additional over-range alarm support structured escalation strategies, and alarm set-points can be configured to recognised workplace exposure limits with an extra high-level alarm where required.

Integrated man-down and panic alarm functions add further protection for lone or remote workers. The man-down function detects lack of movement, while the dedicated panic control allows a worker to initiate an alarm manually. When combined with Bluetooth connectivity, compatible mobile applications and appropriate infrastructure, these functions can be linked to email or text notifications, helping supervisors respond rapidly to incidents even when personnel are out of direct line of sight.

Built-in Bluetooth connectivity enables wireless transfer of data and real-time viewing of instrument status via free iOS and Android companion apps. Live gas readings, alarms and device information can be viewed on mobile devices, increasing situational awareness for supervisors and control teams during confined space entry and other high-risk tasks.

An internal data logger records events and many hours of gas measurements, supporting post-event analysis and documentation. Data download via an infrared interface, combined with optional PC software, logger adapters and docking stations, provides structured records for incident investigation, insurance queries and regulatory reporting. For larger fleets, centralised data management simplifies demonstration of compliance and trend analysis across multiple instruments and locations.

The Riken Keiki GX-3R Pro uses diffusion sampling as standard for simple daily operation with minimal user intervention. For pre-entry checks and remote sampling of confined spaces, an optional manual suction pump with rod and tubing options up to 30 m allows assessment of atmospheres before workers enter. This supports safer entry procedures while using the same detector platform.

A wide range of accessories – including heat-resistant and leather cases, belt clips, ultra-slim alligator clips, and arm/ankle belts – helps position the detector securely in the breathing zone across a variety of tasks and clothing configurations. Protective films are available to shield the display from scratches and contamination, extending instrument appearance and readability in harsh conditions.

Multilingual support for up to 11 languages makes the GX-3R Pro suitable for global workforces and mixed-language sites.
