Description
Honeywell OELD is a smart local display and junction box for Honeywell infrared gas detectors in hazardous industrial and marine areas.
Honeywell OELD is a smart junction box and local display for Honeywell Searchpoint Optima Plus, Searchline Excel and compatible 4–20 mA field devices. It adds a clear LCD, multi-colour status indication and secure Bluetooth access directly at the detector, delivering real-time visibility where the gas hazard exists. By enabling non-intrusive, app-driven configuration and maintenance, Honeywell OELD helps reduce hot-work requirements, shorten service windows and improve situational awareness in harsh onshore, offshore and marine environments.
AT A GLANCE
- Smart 4–20 mA interface: Adds an integrated LCD and multi-colour status indication to supported detectors for clear local gas and status information.
- Non-intrusive configuration and service: Bluetooth Low Energy access via OELD app or field communicator supports one-person calibration, set-up and diagnostics from a safe distance.
- Flexible installation platform: Direct or remote mounting, multiple cable entries and accessory kits support a wide range of layouts and retrofit projects.
- Rugged and globally deployable: IP66 / Type 4X housing, corrosion-resistant materials and global hazardous area and maritime approvals suit demanding industrial and marine sites.

Overview of Honeywell OELD
Turn Fixed Gas Detectors into Smart, Connected Field Devices
Honeywell OELD is designed to unlock additional value from Honeywell Searchpoint Optima Plus and Searchline Excel infrared gas detectors, as well as suitable 4–20 mA devices. Acting as a smart junction box, it provides a 4–20 mA communications bridge between detector and control system while adding a robust local user interface. The integrated LCD presents real-time gas readings, gas type, measurement units and detector status at the point of risk, reducing reliance on the control room for basic checks and verification.
A prominent multi-colour backlit display and “traffic light” status ring help personnel quickly identify the correct device in complex plant layouts. Green, yellow, red and blue indications clearly signal normal operation, fault or maintenance requirement, alarm and active Bluetooth connection, supporting rapid triage and response during routine operation and abnormal events.
Non-Intrusive, App-Driven Operation and Maintenance
Built-in Bluetooth Low Energy enables non-intrusive interaction with Honeywell OELD via the OELD smartphone app or ruggedised Honeywell field communicators. From up to 10 metres away, maintenance teams can specify the target gas, configure alarm setpoints, perform one-person calibrations, access event logs, run diagnostics and check detector status. This approach supports a “know before you go” maintenance model, helping teams arrive at site with the right tools, spares and work permits.
Because most configuration and maintenance tasks can be completed without opening the enclosure, Honeywell OELD helps reduce hot-work permits, area declassification and additional manpower associated with traditional intrusive servicing. Where Bluetooth use is restricted or unavailable, ATEX/IECEx versions provide a magnet-operated local interface, maintaining non-intrusive menu navigation without compromising hazardous area integrity.
Flexible Installation and Platform Standardisation
Honeywell OELD supports both direct and remote mounting of detectors, making it suitable for applications where sensors must be placed in ducts, elevated structures or confined spaces. The OELD unit can be installed in a more accessible location, giving operators a safe vantage point for viewing status and performing adjustments while the detector remains at the optimal sampling position.
Multiple cable entries with blanking plugs and pluggable rising-clamp terminal blocks accommodate a wide range of cable sizes and installation practices. Support for pole, pipe, ceiling and sunshade mounting kits allows standardisation on a single display and junction box platform across diverse applications, reducing engineering effort and simplifying spares management. Backward compatibility with all versions of Searchpoint Optima Plus and Searchline Excel, along with a clear migration path from earlier junction box part numbers, further streamlines upgrades and retrofit projects.
Rugged Design for Harsh Industrial and Marine Environments
Honeywell OELD is engineered for long-term deployment in demanding conditions. Housings in marine-grade aluminium alloy or 316 stainless steel with a multi-layer painted finish provide strong resistance to corrosion in offshore, petrochemical and marine environments. An IP66 / Type 4X ingress protection rating guards against dust and water, supporting outdoor and washdown operation.
A wide operating temperature and humidity capability allows installation in cold climates, hot process areas and coastal facilities. Ex d (flameproof) and Ex e (increased safety) variants, together with hazardous area, safety, EMC and maritime approvals, support use in classified industrial plants and on shipboard and offshore assets as part of fixed gas detection systems.
Security, Functional Safety and Operational Confidence
Security is built into the Bluetooth implementation. Certificate-based mutual authentication and AES-128 encryption help protect configuration and diagnostic data, while a primary-user access model in the OELD app controls who can connect and modify settings. Honeywell OELD has been assessed as having no effect on the functional safety performance of the connected gas sensor, supporting its use in safety-instrumented architectures.
The local display presents clear icons for alarm, maintenance requirements and active Bluetooth connection, allowing quick status checks without additional instruments. User-configurable parameters mean that gas name, range and units can be aligned with site standards, whether indicating lower explosive limit values, volumetric or path-integrated measurements, or signal diagnostics such as mA or dB. Where continuous green indication is not desired, the normal-status light can be deactivated via the app.
Supporting Lower Lifecycle Cost and Connected Safety Workflows
Honeywell OELD operates from a standard 24 Vdc supply with low power consumption, easing integration into existing power budgets. Compact dimensions and moderate weight enable mounting on existing structures with minimal modification, helping projects stay within schedule and cost constraints.
By combining modern, app-driven interaction with local visualisation and remote diagnostics, Honeywell OELD helps reduce unnecessary site visits, shorten maintenance windows and increase uptime across both point and open-path gas detection installations. As a Honeywell Analytics solution, it provides a cost-effective way to modernise installed detector bases and move towards connected, data-informed safety management while maintaining compatibility with established Honeywell detector platforms.
