Description
Crowcon TXgard IS+ is an intrinsically safe fixed gas detector for continuous monitoring of toxic gases and oxygen in industrial areas classified due to flammable gases, vapours or combustible dust.
It combines local LCD indication, non-intrusive one-person calibration and broad sensor choice in a compact, rugged housing with global hazardous area approvals. Two-wire, loop-powered 4–20 mA signalling simplifies integration into new or existing systems, helping engineering teams deploy consistent gas monitoring across demanding sites with controlled costs and minimal disruption.
AT A GLANCE
- Flexible gas platform: Wide electrochemical sensor range covers common toxic gas and oxygen hazards from a single detector type.
- Safer servicing in hazardous areas: Intrinsically safe design with non-intrusive, one-person calibration reduces permit requirements, cable disturbance and downtime.
- Simple installation and retrofit: Two-wire, loop-powered 4–20 mA output supports long cable runs and straightforward integration with existing control panels.
- Engineered for harsh conditions: Rugged construction and IP65 ingress protection support outdoor, washdown and arduous industrial environments.

Overview of Crowcon TXgard IS+
Robust fixed gas monitoring for classified industrial areas
Crowcon TXgard IS+ is an intrinsically safe fixed gas detector for continuous monitoring of toxic and oxygen hazards in areas classified because of flammable gases, vapours or combustible dust. It is suitable for very high-risk gas zones and a wide range of classified hazardous locations, providing continuous local monitoring at process units, confined space entries, loading areas and other critical points.
An extensive choice of electrochemical sensors allows TXgard IS+ to address oxygen deficiency or enrichment and a broad spectrum of toxic gases from the same detector platform. Standardising on a single housing and electronics simplifies project engineering, reduces the number of spare parts held on site and makes training, commissioning and ongoing support more straightforward, particularly on large multi-detector installations.
Clear local indication and controlled field work
The two-line, 16-character LCD provides clear, at-a-glance gas readings and status information directly at the point of risk. Technicians can confirm conditions during commissioning, inspections and walkdowns without returning to the control room, which is beneficial in remote, noisy or congested areas.
Front-panel push-buttons enable full calibration and configuration without opening the junction box, interrupting power or disturbing cable seals. This non-intrusive approach helps maintain hazardous area integrity and can reduce the need for hot work permits during routine service. One-person calibration is fast and repeatable, limiting the time personnel spend in hazardous locations and minimising disruption to production.
Lower maintenance overhead and lifecycle cost
TXgard IS+ is designed for low total cost of ownership. Long-life electrochemical sensors extend replacement intervals, reducing both consumable expenditure and the frequency of site interventions. When components do require replacement, straightforward sensor and accessory changes keep service windows short and predictable.
High repeatability and low zero drift support stable readings over time, helping reduce nuisance alarms and the investigative work they create. Combined with non-intrusive calibration and simple one-person servicing, these characteristics support efficient maintenance regimes across sites with large installed bases or detectors located at height or in difficult-to-access positions.
Efficient installation and system integration
The detector’s two-wire, loop-powered 4–20 mA output allows direct connection to a wide variety of Crowcon and third-party control panels. Powering the detector from the signal loop simplifies panel design, reduces cable cores and can lower installed costs compared with multi-wire architectures.
Terminals sized for industrial cable and a single cable entry (with matching gland accessories) support long runs and reliable sealed terminations. The compact, lightweight housing suits wall, structure or skid mounting, while dedicated accessories such as flow adaptors, spray deflectors and duct mounting plates enable the same detector type to be deployed in sampling lines, air ducts and washdown areas using consistent hardware and procedures.
Built for arduous environments and global projects
A tough carbon loaded nylon junction box and robust ABS sensor housing provide mechanical strength in demanding environments, while an IP65 ingress protection rating helps the detector resist dust and water in outdoor, semi-enclosed and washdown locations. The wide operating temperature and humidity capabilities extend applicability from controlled indoor facilities to exposed process areas.
TXgard IS+ is suited to industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, steel production, water and wastewater treatment, as well as automotive and aerospace manufacturing, research laboratories and high-utilisation medical, civil and commercial plants. Its performance is assessed to recognised gas detection and EMC standards, and it carries multiple hazardous area approvals, supporting consistent specification across multinational projects and both zone- and division-based classification regimes when installed with appropriate isolation devices.
Standardised platform with comprehensive support
By combining flexible sensing options, rugged construction, non-intrusive calibration and simple loop-powered integration, Crowcon TXgard IS+ provides a standardised platform for toxic gas and oxygen monitoring across diverse applications. Optional accessories help engineering teams adapt a single detector type to open plant, ducted, sampling and washdown duties, reducing SKU counts and design complexity.
Extensive documentation and global technical support through Crowcon and authorised distributors assist engineering, safety and maintenance teams from specification and system design through to long-term operation and periodic service, helping ensure reliable gas monitoring with tightly controlled whole-life costs.
