Overview of RAE Systems MultiRAE

Configurable multi-gas monitoring on a single platform

The RAE Systems MultiRAE is designed as a premium solution for organisations that need advanced protection for personal exposure monitoring and industrial hygiene surveys. It supports up to six total gas channels via a combination of five individual sensors plus a combination sensor, allowing one detector to replace multiple single-purpose instruments. Around 25 intelligent, field-interchangeable sensor options cover VOCs, combustible gases, oxygen, carbon dioxide and a wide range of toxic gases, enabling each unit to be configured for specific processes, areas or response teams.

This platform approach helps standardise on a single detector type across the site, simplifying training, reducing spares inventory and making redeployment between tasks straightforward. Extensive on-board gas libraries further streamline setup and gas selection, supporting rapid adjustment to changing hazards in oil and gas, chemical, environmental, pharmaceutical and other industrial applications.

Advanced VOC performance with integrated PID

An integrated photoionisation detector provides one of the broadest VOC measurement ranges in its class, making MultiRAE well-suited to leak detection, environmental clean-up, fracking operations and clandestine laboratory response. On-screen indication of PID gas type and correction factor supports informed interpretation of readings across a variety of VOCs, helping industrial hygienists and safety specialists maintain confidence in data during dynamic field operations.

Wireless connectivity for coordinated incident response

Optional integrated wireless capability turns MultiRAE into a node in a real-time safety network. Wireless data and alarm transmission via the built-in RF modem supports multiple communication options and integration with compatible Honeywell platforms, ProRAE Guardian and EchoView Host-based networks. This enables safety officers and incident commanders to view live readings, alarm status and Man Down events from significant distances, improving situational awareness, supporting faster decisions and reducing the need to place additional personnel into hazardous areas.

Designed for harsh, hazardous environments

MultiRAE combines a compact, ergonomic form factor with robust construction for demanding industrial and outdoor use. The IP65-rated housing resists dust and water, including hose-down jets, while wide operating temperature and humidity tolerances support deployment in diverse climates. Comprehensive international approvals for use in classified hazardous locations, together with testing to demanding military and EMI/EMC standards, underpin suitability for explosive atmospheres and mission-critical environments.

Local and remote alerting are supported by a five-way alarm system combining a loud audible alarm, high-visibility flashing LEDs, vibration, on-screen indicators and a dedicated Man Down Alarm with pre-alarm and wireless notification. This ensures that alarms are noticed promptly, even in noisy, low-visibility or high-stress situations.

Clear interface and comprehensive status information

The MultiRAE interface is designed to minimise training time and user error. A large monochrome graphic LCD with automatic screen flip provides clear visibility in multiple orientations, while large, glove-friendly buttons support confident operation even when wearing multiple layers of PPE. Real-time gas readings are presented alongside STEL, TWA, peak and minimum values, giving a clear picture of both instantaneous and cumulative exposure.

Additional on-screen indicators display PID gas type and correction factor, battery level, wireless connection and signal quality, datalogging activity, Man Down status and overall compliance state. This consolidated status view assists both instrument users and supervisors in assessing instrument readiness and worker safety at a glance.

Integrated pump and remote sampling

The built-in sample pump delivers approximately 250 cc/min flow with automatic shutoff under low-flow conditions, protecting the pump and helping maintain sampling integrity. When used with appropriate probes and tubing, the detector can draw samples from extended distances, supporting confined space entry, remote leak checks and pre-entry testing of tanks, pits, voids and other hard-to-reach locations without exposing personnel unnecessarily.

Power options, datalogging and fleet efficiency

Multiple power options, including standard and extended-duration Li-ion batteries and an AA alkaline adapter, provide flexible runtime combinations of around 6, 12 or 18 hours. This enables safety managers to align detector runtime with shift patterns, planned shutdowns or extended response operations, reducing the risk of unexpected instrument loss during critical tasks.

Continuous datalogging supports up to several months of operation at typical settings, with user-configurable logging intervals to balance data resolution against storage requirements. Integration with Honeywell device management platforms allows configuration management, data download, maintenance scheduling and fleet oversight from a central point, helping to keep large deployments aligned with site standards.

Smart sensors, automated testing and deployment options

Intelligent plug-and-play sensors store their own calibration data, enabling fast field replacement without specialist tools and reducing downtime during maintenance. When combined with the AutoRAE 2 Test and Calibration System, MultiRAE supports automatic bump testing and calibration, standardising maintenance routines and supporting compliance across fleets of instruments. Manual calibration workflows are also supported for sites without automated systems.

PC connectivity via desktop charging/communication cradles or travel chargers provides straightforward access for configuration changes, data retrieval and firmware updates. A wide language set supports multinational workforces, while optional confined space entry kits, calibration kits and a broad accessory ecosystem of probes, batteries, chargers and carry cases allow each deployment to be tailored to specific tasks.

With robust warranty coverage on key sensors and core components and strong OEM and partner support, the RAE Systems MultiRAE is positioned as a professional-grade detector for oil and gas, chemical, environmental, pharmaceutical, marine, aviation and emergency response organisations that require high-performance, configurable multi-gas and chemical monitoring.
