Description

RAE Systems ToxiRAE Pro PID is a compact, intrinsically safe personal VOC detector for classified industrial areas with wireless connected safety.

The RAE Systems ToxiRAE Pro PID is a wearable, single-gas photoionisation detector for continuous personal monitoring of volatile organic compounds in industrial areas, including those classified due to flammable gases, vapours or dust. It combines a next-generation PID sensor, compact IP65-rated housing and optional wireless connectivity to deliver fast, accurate VOC measurements directly at the worker. With integrated man-down functionality, extensive datalogging options and compatibility with Honeywell connected safety platforms, it supports exposure control, lone-worker protection and defensible documentation in demanding applications.

AT A GLANCE

  • Targeted VOC personal monitoring: Single-gas PID detector focused on VOC exposure, with model-dependent measurement range and correction factors for common compounds.
  • Connected safety visibility: Optional wireless versions provide live readings and alarm status to remote supervisors and command centres across mesh and host networks.
  • Built for hazardous locations: Intrinsically safe, IP65-rated design with multiple hazardous area approvals for use in explosive atmospheres and harsh process conditions.
  • Efficient daily operation: Large backlit display, two-button interface, rechargeable Li-ion power and user-replaceable components support simple use and fast in-house servicing.

Overview of RAE Systems ToxiRAE Pro PID

Wearable VOC protection with advanced PID performance

The RAE Systems ToxiRAE Pro PID is engineered as a compact, clip-on, single-gas detector dedicated to volatile organic compound monitoring. The next-generation photoionisation sensor delivers rapid response and accurate readings across a wide, model-dependent range, helping safety teams identify rising exposure early during tasks such as plant turnarounds, shutdowns or remediation work. A built-in library of PID correction factors automatically converts readings for a large number of VOCs, reducing manual calculations and supporting more consistent interpretation of results.

Industrial Hygiene configurations add advanced data and documentation tools and include Technical Note TN-106, which provides ionisation energies and correction factors for hundreds of VOCs, supporting professional occupational hygiene assessments and reporting.

Connected safety and fleet-wide visibility

Wireless-enabled ToxiRAE Pro PID models act as nodes in a closed-loop mesh network, turning personal VOC detection into part of a wider connected safety system. Live concentration data and alarm status can be viewed remotely through systems such as ProRAE Guardian and EchoView Host, as well as Honeywell software platforms, allowing command centres to track conditions across multiple workers and locations in real time.

Typical wireless ranges support local links to RAELink mesh modems and wider coverage to routers or hosts, enabling flexible system design for complex sites. This real-time visibility helps organisations detect trends sooner, coordinate emergency response, and capture detailed event data for audits, investigations and compliance records.

Alarms and lone-worker protection

The detector uses a five-way alarm scheme to help ensure that hazardous conditions do not go unnoticed. Audible, vibrating and visual alarms are supported by clear on-screen indicators and wireless remote alerts so both the wearer and remote observers can respond quickly. An integrated man-down alarm with pre-alarm and remote notification adds a further layer of lone-worker protection, automatically raising attention if a worker is motionless or incapacitated in confined spaces, remote areas or noisy facilities.

Rugged, intrinsically safe design for demanding environments

The ToxiRAE Pro PID combines intrinsic safety with a robust enclosure and compact form factor suited to all-day wear. Multiple hazardous area approvals support use in explosive atmospheres, while recognised compliance with EMC and radio directives and relevant performance standards underpins corporate and regulatory requirements.

The IP65 housing resists water, dust and shock, and is complemented by a protective rubber boot and alligator clip for secure mounting on clothing or gear. A wide operating temperature range and high humidity tolerance allow deployment across diverse climates, from outdoor oil and gas operations to hot, humid process plants, environmental projects and emergency response scenarios.

Clear display and actionable data

A large graphical LCD, one of the largest in its class, with white LED backlighting provides clear visibility in low light and at awkward viewing angles. The display shows real-time VOC readings in ppm or mg/m³ alongside STEL, TWA and peak values, supporting both immediate safety decisions and long-term exposure management strategies.

Status icons indicate battery level, datalogging state, wireless on/off and signal quality at a glance. Datalogging models capture extended periods of measurements with configurable logging intervals, providing a detailed record of exposure histories. When combined with Honeywell SafetySuite or ProRAE Studio II software, this data can be downloaded, analysed and archived to support trend analysis, reporting and optimisation of site safety programmes.

Designed for uptime, efficient maintenance and policy control

The instrument is optimised for straightforward daily use. Two-button operation simplifies navigation and configuration, reducing training demands and helping minimise errors in the field. An internal fan provides active sampling of ambient air for consistent measurement performance, particularly where air movement is limited.

User-replaceable sensors, filters, fans and batteries enable fast, on-site maintenance without reliance on external service providers, helping reduce downtime and ownership costs. The rechargeable Li-ion battery provides more than a full shift of operation per charge and recharges in less than four hours using the supplied cradle. The detector supports automatic bump testing and calibration via the AutoRAE 2 system, while also allowing manual calibration where required. Optional policy enforcement features can be configured to help ensure adherence to defined bump test, calibration and usage rules across a fleet.

Flexible configurations and deployment options

The RAE Systems ToxiRAE Pro PID is available in wireless and non-wireless versions, as well as Safety (basic) and Industrial Hygiene (advanced) configurations, allowing alignment with site risk profiles, reporting needs and budgets. Non-wireless models are intentionally not upgradeable to wireless, helping specifiers select the required connectivity level at purchase. Variants with and without datalogging accommodate both routine compliance checks and more detailed exposure investigations.

PID lamp options, including different lamp energies, allow optimisation of sensitivity and selectivity for varying VOC profiles. Each detector is supplied as a comprehensive kit, including the monitor with installed sensor and rechargeable battery, mounting clip and rubber boot, charging and PC communication cradle, calibration accessories and core documentation such as calibration and quality certificates and warranty information. Standard warranty coverage on non-consumable parts, coupled with support from distributors, training and demonstrations, helps organisations deploy and sustain the technology with confidence.

Typical applications span chemical processing, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, industrial hygiene surveys, environmental consulting, soil remediation, HAZMAT response and public-sector safety and environmental agencies. When integrated into Honeywell’s wider gas detection and safety ecosystem, the ToxiRAE Pro PID strengthens connected safety programmes and supports consistent VOC risk management across diverse sites and teams.
