Description

RAE Systems ToxiRAE Pro EC is a wireless single-gas and oxygen detector for hazardous areas, combining lone-worker protection with fleet-wide visibility.

The RAE Systems ToxiRAE Pro EC is a personal single-gas and oxygen detector for workers operating in industrial and emergency environments, including areas classified due to flammable gases or vapours. It uses interchangeable electrochemical sensors to cover a wide range of toxic gases and oxygen hazards, with real-time readings available both on the instrument and remotely. Wireless connectivity, a five-way alarm system and a built-in man-down function support faster, better-informed response, while rugged construction and streamlined maintenance help standardise personal gas monitoring across large fleets.

AT A GLANCE

  • Flexible gas platform: Interchangeable electrochemical sensors cover toxic gases and oxygen, supporting fleet standardisation and reduced spares inventory.
  • Connected worker safety: Wireless communication, five-way alarms and man-down alert provide local and remote visibility of personal gas hazards.
  • Rugged, intrinsically safe design: Compact, IP65-rated, shock-resistant detector suited to harsh industrial and emergency environments.
  • Low-maintenance operation: Diffusion sampling, automatic test and calibration options, and fast recharging help minimise downtime and call-outs.

Overview of RAE Systems ToxiRAE Pro EC

Wireless personal gas monitoring with remote visibility

The RAE Systems ToxiRAE Pro EC provides each worker with dedicated protection against toxic gas and oxygen hazards while giving safety teams real-time visibility of field conditions. This compact, lightweight detector is designed for all-day wear on belts, harnesses or lapels, supporting continuous monitoring during routine operations, shutdowns, fracking activities or emergency response. Wireless connectivity enables live gas readings and alarm status to be viewed remotely, helping command centres and supervisors track exposure, prioritise interventions and coordinate rescue more effectively.

The instrument operates within Honeywell and RAE wireless ecosystems, integrating with platforms such as ProRAE Guardian software and EchoView closed-loop networks. Long-range communication to compatible mesh routers, hosts and modems extends coverage across large industrial sites and incident scenes, supporting centralised oversight without adding complexity for the wearer.

Wide gas coverage and interchangeable sensors

The ToxiRAE Pro EC supports more than 20 electrochemical sensor options for toxic gases and oxygen, including extended-range variants for key gases. Sensor types are shared with the MultiRAE family, allowing sites to rationalise spares, streamline procurement and standardise training across portable gas detection platforms. Each intelligent sensor stores its own calibration data, so sensors can be swapped in the field to change the target gas without immediate recalibration. This capability shortens changeover times, reduces dependence on workshop facilities and allows a common pool of detectors to be redeployed quickly across different processes or locations.

The detector is suited to a broad range of industries, including oil and gas, chemical processing, agriculture, steel manufacturing, water and wastewater treatment, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage production and pulp and paper. It is also widely used in emergency response, including HazMat incidents, clandestine laboratory investigations, urban search and rescue and fire overhaul, where rapid assessment of atmospheric hazards is critical.

Alarms, man-down and lone-worker protection

To help ensure prompt reaction to hazardous conditions, the ToxiRAE Pro EC delivers a five-way alarm: high-output audible alarm, bright flashing red LEDs, strong vibration, clear on-screen alarm indication and remote wireless alarm notification. This multi-channel approach helps alarms cut through noise, poor visibility and PPE. A built-in man-down function adds a further layer of protection for lone workers by detecting lack of movement and issuing both local and remote alerts. In combination, these features support faster rescue and intervention when a worker is incapacitated or unable to raise the alarm manually.

Rugged, intrinsically safe and ready for harsh sites

The detector is engineered for demanding industrial and emergency environments. A shock-resistant housing with protective rubber boot helps withstand drops and mechanical impacts, while an independently validated IP65 rating offers resistance to water and dust ingress. Intrinsically safe design and recognised approvals enable use in hazardous locations that may be classified due to the presence of flammable gases or vapours, while the gas sensors themselves focus on toxic and oxygen hazards. A wide operating temperature range and high humidity tolerance support deployment in both cold outdoor locations and hot, humid process areas.

Its compact form factor and ergonomic clip encourage consistent wearing throughout the shift, helping organisations maintain continuous personal monitoring without impeding tasks.

Clear information, logging and exposure tracking

A large graphical LCD with white LED backlighting allows readings to be checked quickly in low light, at night or in dusty or smoky conditions. The display presents real-time gas concentrations in suitable units alongside battery status, datalogging status and wireless link and signal quality indicators. The instrument also records and displays short-term exposure limits, time-weighted averages and peak values, supporting exposure assessment and helping demonstrate alignment with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Continuous datalogging with substantial capacity, combined with user-selectable logging intervals, provides a record for incident investigation, trend analysis and formalised gas detection programmes. Recorded data can be downloaded and managed using compatible software to support documentation and audit needs.

Streamlined maintenance, calibration and fleet management

The ToxiRAE Pro EC is designed to reduce the effort and cost associated with maintaining a large detector fleet. Diffusion sampling removes the need for a pump, cutting moving parts and simplifying daily checks. A simple two-button interface supports straightforward operation and configuration, even when users are wearing gloves. For calibration and bump testing, the detector is compatible with the AutoRAE 2 Test and Calibration System, enabling automated routines for testing, calibration and data download. This supports consistent practice across multiple instruments and reduces manual intervention and potential for error, while manual calibration remains available where required.

PC-based configuration and data transfer are handled via the supplied charging and communication cradle and cable. Software tools such as Honeywell SafetySuite and ProRAE Studio II provide device management, configuration control and data analysis across larger deployments, helping organisations standardise settings, manage firmware and centralise records.

High availability and complete kit supply

A rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides extended run time between charges in non-wireless operation, supporting long shifts and minimising mid-shift battery changes. Typical recharge times via the cradle are short, promoting high instrument availability.

Each ToxiRAE Pro EC is supplied as a comprehensive kit, including the specified sensor, protective boot, alligator clip, rechargeable battery, charging and communication cradle, AC adapter, calibration adapters and communication cable. Supporting documentation such as a Quick Start Guide, full user manual, calibration card, quality certificate and warranty and registration materials assists with correct deployment and ongoing use. With multiple warranty options, including extended coverage for certain key sensors depending on model, the platform helps organisations plan lifecycle costs and maintain confidence in their personal gas monitoring capability across industrial, public sector, healthcare and commercial environments.
