Description
Honeywell ACM 150 is a centralised FT-IR gas monitoring system for multi-point industrial processes, combining wide gas coverage with low lifecycle cost.
The Honeywell ACM 150 is a centralised FT-IR gas monitoring system for multi-point, multi-gas measurement in demanding industrial environments. It sequentially monitors up to 40 sample points, with software-configurable gas lists at each location, using infrared “fingerprint” analysis for precise identification and minimal cross-interference. By combining wide gas coverage, low detection limits and composite sampling in a single platform, the ACM 150 supports safety, compliance and process control while reducing hardware footprint, cost-per-gas and maintenance overhead.

Overview of Honeywell ACM 150
Centralised Multi-Point, Multi-Gas Monitoring
The Honeywell ACM 150 consolidates complex monitoring requirements into one FT-IR analyser, reducing the need for multiple distributed instruments. A single unit can sequentially monitor up to 40 measuring points, with software-configurable gas selections at each point and up to 15 gases per sampling location. Configurations of 10, 20, 30 or 40 points, together with optional multi-point manifolds, enable scalable coverage as tools and areas are added. Centralised sampling reduces hardware count, simplifies change management and helps standardise gas monitoring across process tools, gas and chemical storage, gas cabinets, distribution boxes, emission stacks and ambient areas.
By concentrating alarm handling and event records in one place, the ACM 150 also simplifies auditing and incident review. Data from multiple locations is logged and archived centrally, supporting plant safety reporting and compliance programmes without the complexity of reconciling separate analyser systems.
High-Sensitivity FT-IR Performance and Broad Gas Coverage
At the core of the ACM 150 is a proven FT-IR bench coupled with a stainless-steel gas cell and a 5.0 m optical path length, delivering a strong signal-to-noise ratio for low detection limits. Typical lower detectable limits extend into the low ppm range, depending on gas, supporting early-warning detection for toxic and process-related species. Selectable sample cells allow the same platform to support both % volume measurements for flammable gases and ppm measurements for toxic gases, simplifying engineering decisions and reducing the number of analyser types deployed on site.
The FT-IR method identifies gases by their characteristic infrared spectra, reducing cross interference and improving selectivity compared with many conventional techniques. With methods for more than 200 gases and software tools that allow additional or previously unknown gases to be characterised, the ACM 150 is designed to accommodate evolving process chemistries. Operators can overlay detected spectra against an internal library as a validation tool, helping confirm identification before acting on alarms or diagnostic information.
Fast, Efficient Sampling and Throughput
The ACM 150 is designed to keep pace with dynamic industrial processes. A scanning rate of up to 15 seconds per point provides timely detection across multiple sampling locations, while composite sampling of up to four measuring points can increase throughput where rapid overview measurements are required. Onboard electronics automatically evaluate IR spectra, store data, transmit alarms, activate point relays and run diagnostic tests, delivering rapid, actionable information without manual analysis.
Sampling hardware is designed for industrial compatibility. Sample line tubing in PTFE, or an alternative polypropylene option, uses standard Swagelok connections for straightforward integration into existing sample line infrastructure. Exhaust gases are routed via a dedicated connection sized for appropriate flow, supporting safe discharge into plant ventilation or abatement systems as defined by site design standards.
Reliability, Self-Diagnostics and Reduced Maintenance
Reliability is supported by a double IR scan architecture that enhances measurement integrity and helps reduce nuisance alarms. Continuous self-diagnostic programming monitors analyser status, sampling performance and critical alarm conditions, providing early warning of issues before they affect availability. Optimised measurement routines, together with built-in diagnostics, significantly reduce the requirement for frequent on-site gas calibration, helping to cut service visits and associated downtime.
The sealed aluminium body protects internal components against moisture ingress and electromagnetic interference, supporting long-term stability in busy plant environments. A desiccant replacement interval typically in the range of three to five years helps minimise routine service tasks. When maintenance is required, the stainless-steel gas cell is designed for easy access and servicing, reducing intervention time and helping maintain high uptime for critical monitoring applications.
Flexible Integration and Control Across Plant Systems
The Honeywell ACM 150 is engineered for integration into wider safety, DCS and SCADA architectures. Each unit is equipped with 80 programmable, configurable DPDT relay outputs that can be assigned by sample point and gas type, allowing tailored alarm tiers and control actions such as tool shutdown or ventilation changes. Multiple industrial communication options, including Modbus, Profibus, ControlNet, LonWorks and OPC drivers, support flexible networking and data exchange with existing control systems.
Local interaction is handled via a modern touchscreen HMI with a clear, point-and-click interface for configuration, status review and diagnostics. For remote operation, an embedded web server enables access through a standard web browser, allowing authorised personnel to review system status, adjust alarm setpoints and update gas selections in line with site security policies. This combination of local and remote access supports efficient management from both field locations and central control rooms.
Industrial Design, Installation and Lifecycle Value
The ACM 150’s indoor-rated enclosure is suited to controlled manufacturing environments, with operating ranges that meet typical requirements for temperature, humidity and altitude in process facilities. Its robust cabinet and substantial construction reflect an industrial-grade approach aimed at applications where continuous monitoring is critical for both safety and production continuity.
Installation is simplified by routing power, sample lines, compressed air and nitrogen connections to the top of the unit, supporting clean panel layouts and easier routing of services. The system supports both venturi (compressed-air driven) and electric pump sampling approaches, with automatic switchover to a redundant electric backup pump as standard to help maintain sampling continuity in the event of a primary supply issue. An optional line leak monitoring function with check valves can be used to supervise sample line integrity, adding confidence in the representativeness of sampled gas streams.
Over the lifecycle of the installation, shared FT-IR hardware, multi-gas capability at each point and extended service intervals combine to reduce the total number of analysers, spare parts and maintenance interventions required. Upgradeable architecture, including available FT-IR benches, HMI enhancements and accessories, allows existing ACM 100 systems to be modernised to ACM 150 performance levels, protecting previous capital investment. Together with compliance to key international standards for safety, EMC and environmental performance, the Honeywell ACM 150 provides a scalable, future-ready solution for centralised multi-gas monitoring in complex industrial settings.
