Overview of Honeywell Vertex
High-Density, Scalable Protection for Complex Facilities
Honeywell Vertex is suited to facilities where local detectors alone cannot provide adequate coverage. A single system can continuously monitor up to 72 sample points, allowing process tools, gas cabinets, storage locations and exhaust systems to be protected from one centralised rack. The scalable design supports initial deployment from as few as eight points, with a clear path to expand as production lines or tool sets grow, avoiding early over-specification while retaining a common monitoring platform.
Each analyser channel can monitor up to eight sample points, which significantly improves cost per location and reduces cabinet count. Sampling points can be located up to approximately 400 ft (120–121 m) from the rack, supporting flexible placement around tools, sub-fabs and service chases while simplifying plant layouts and cable routing.
Chemcassette® Technology and Wide Application Coverage
At the core of Honeywell Vertex is Chemcassette® colourimetric technology, delivering highly sensitive, low-level toxic gas detection with a visible stain as physical proof of a gas event. One system can monitor up to nine gas families and more than 40 individual gases, including aggressive species such as fluorine (F2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), helping to support a broad set of process chemistries on a single monitoring platform.
The system supports a choice of universal Chemcassette® analysers and specialised Pyrolyser analysers for gases such as NF3 and related compounds. This flexibility allows one sample point to be split to more than one analyser, so different gas families or detection ranges can be monitored from the same location without additional sampling hardware.
XP Chemcassettes® typically provide up to three months of continuous monitoring, and each analyser channel covers eight points, helping reduce consumable usage and change-out frequency. Optional Chemcam camera technology provides local or remote visual confirmation of the Chemcassette® stain, with images stored electronically to support incident investigation and audit evidence.
Performance, Reliability and Sample Line Integrity
Honeywell Vertex is engineered for continuous operation in demanding environments such as semiconductor fabs, pharmaceutical plants and chemical processing facilities. Redundant design elements, including back-up pumps and internal power modules, help maintain monitoring capability during individual component failures. If the main data acquisition PC is unavailable, the analyser modules continue to monitor, log data and generate alarms, sustaining protection until full system functionality is restored.
Transport time performance, for example around 67 seconds for 300 ft of tubing, supports timely detection over long sample runs. Compatibility with FEP Teflon tubing, duct adapters and a range of filters allows sampling systems to be configured to suit local conditions while protecting measurement integrity. Automated leak testing and optional line integrity kits enable scheduled pressure checks of sample lines, with support for line-end particulate and corrosive gas filters to help maintain sample quality over the life of the installation.
A drip-resistant cap protects the cabinet from overhead leaks, and where specified, hot-swappable RAID hard drives in the data acquisition centre enhance data security and system availability. EN, RoHS and related international standards and certifications further assist engineering teams in meeting corporate standards and regulatory expectations.
Installation and System Integration
The base rack enclosure concentrates the data acquisition centre, redundant pumps and power supplies, resistive touchscreen and keyboard, cable management and space for up to nine analysers into a compact package that can be floor-mounted with optional manifold accessories. This consolidation simplifies mechanical design, reduces installation time and supports a standardised monitoring architecture across multiple areas or sites.
Front-panel access to analysers, pumps, power supplies and the touchscreen allows many commissioning and service tasks to be completed from the front of the rack, minimising disruption in congested service areas. Built-in configurable PLCs support up to 176 relay contacts, with non-isolated and isolated options to align with different control system philosophies. A standard OPC interface provides straightforward integration with plant automation systems and HMIs, while a broad range of optional digital communication protocols, including Ethernet/CIP, Modbus/TCP, Modbus Plus, Profibus, LonWorks®, DeviceNet™, ControlNet and DF1, supports connection to diverse control platforms. Optional isolated 4–20 mA outputs facilitate integration with existing analogue systems.
Operation, Maintenance and Cybersecurity
A 15.6" resistive touchscreen monitor provides access to real-time gas readings, alarms and system status in a clear, graphical format. Configuration changes, data retrieval and security updates can typically be performed without taking the system offline, allowing maintenance and engineering teams to adjust settings while monitoring continues. Visual alarm indicators with separate LEDs for Alarm 1, Alarm 2, Fault and Normal offer clear status at a glance from the front of the rack.
No dynamic calibration or flow balancing is required, which simplifies commissioning and reduces ongoing service effort. RFID tags help ensure that the correct Chemcassette® is loaded into the appropriately programmed analyser channel, reducing the risk of human error during consumable changes. An on-line help system and onboard interactive electronic manual with video provide guidance for daily operation and troubleshooting, supported by comprehensive documentation sets, including data sheets, operating manuals, technical handbooks and brochures.
Remote software options, such as Active Display Server and Client, offer scalable multi-user access and optional remote write and control capability, so control rooms and support teams can view and manage monitor screens from other locations on the network. Multiple levels of password protection and tiered user access help support cybersecurity policies, and security configurations can be updated without interrupting monitoring. The operating system, based on Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, underpins IT security and long-term support for the platform.
Designed as a cost-effective, interference-free, low-maintenance continuous monitoring solution, Honeywell Vertex supports robust toxic gas protection, traceable records for audits and long-term operational efficiency across mission-critical industrial facilities.
