Overview of Honeywell Midas M
High‑confidence multi‑gas monitoring for critical process tools
Honeywell Midas M is designed for applications where even minor gas leaks can affect safety, product quality or tool availability. As a fixed extractive, single‑point 4‑in‑1 multi‑gas detector, it continuously draws samples from semiconductor processing tools, gas cabinets, wafer dryers, reactors and other equipment, as well as light industrial manufacturing, laboratories, aerospace facilities and wastewater plants. By supporting detection of more than 30 key toxic, flammable, ambient and oxygen gases, it enables broad coverage across multiple processes using a standardised monitoring platform.
The detector draws gas either from the immediate area or from remote locations up to 30 m away and delivers it to an internal sensor cartridge. This allows the compact transmitter to be mounted where access is straightforward, while the sampling points are positioned close to potential leak sources in crowded or enclosed spaces. Regulated sampling flow, controlled by patented flow technology, supports repeatable readings and reliable detection performance.
Plug‑and‑play sensing that simplifies commissioning and maintenance
Midas M uses a wide range of plug‑and‑play sensor cartridges covering toxic, flammable and oxygen hazards. Each factory‑calibrated cartridge connects directly into the detector, with the 4‑in‑1 multi smart sensor carrying its own e‑calibration certificate to support traceable, error‑free setup. This approach reduces the need for frequent on‑site calibration and gas testing, helping to shorten commissioning windows and lower demand on specialist personnel.
Extended calibration intervals are supported by Reflex® sensor health diagnostics, which continuously verify sensor performance and provide early indication of developing issues. TempraSure™ temperature compensation technology helps maintain accuracy as ambient conditions vary, reducing nuisance alarms and minimising drift. Defined transmitter and sensor warranties, including extended coverage for oxygen sensing, support predictable lifecycle planning and long‑term asset management.
Reliable extractive sampling over extended distances
A robust extractive pump system, designed for a long service life, underpins the performance of Midas M. It pulls samples from up to 30 m through specified sample and exhaust tubing, maintaining a typical flow of 500–600 mL/min for rapid response. Typical transport times of only a few to several seconds enable fast detection of leaks, supporting timely intervention to protect personnel and safeguard high‑value tools and processes.
An in‑line air filter on the ambient port helps limit particulate ingress, protecting internal components and supporting sensor stability over time. An optional line integrity test module can be used to identify leaks, restrictions or blockages in the sample line, increasing confidence that the sampled gas accurately represents the monitored location.
Clear local indication and flexible alarming
Midas M provides clear visual feedback on detector status and gas levels. A bright multicolour backlit LCD presents 4‑digit alphanumeric readings, engineering units and bar graphs for each channel, enabling technicians to assess conditions quickly. On Generation 2 units, the backlight colour changes with status or alarm condition so that abnormal states are visible at a glance, even from a distance.
Dedicated LEDs indicate power, alarm and fault conditions. Three integral Form C relays provide outputs for Alarm 1, Alarm 2 and Fault, with configurable latching and normally open/closed behaviour to align with site safety philosophies. Optional relay modules add further outputs for multi‑channel alarms and common fault signalling, supporting integration into wider safety and warning systems.
Integration with modern control architectures
The detector integrates with both conventional and Ethernet‑based control systems. Each channel offers an isolated 0–21 mA analog output, configurable as sink, source or fully isolated, allowing straightforward connection to existing 4–20 mA infrastructure. Native Modbus/TCP Ethernet connectivity enables direct communication with PLCs, DCS and building management systems without additional protocol converters.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability allows power, control and communications to be delivered through a single Ethernet connection, simplifying wiring and reducing panel space requirements. As a result, Midas M can operate in purely analog, purely Ethernet or hybrid architectures, supporting new installations, plant upgrades and retrofit programmes with the same platform.
Compact, modular design for constrained spaces
The compact footprint and low transmitter weight make Midas M well suited to cramped semiconductor tool bays, gas cabinets and panels where space is at a premium. Wall and DIN rail mounting options increase installation flexibility. A zinc‑plated steel chassis and mounting bracket, polycarbonate cover and coated aluminium frame, combined with a NEMA 4 rated enclosure, provide mechanical robustness and environmental protection in demanding industrial settings.
Modular construction – with separate front, pump, sensor cartridge, main and base modules – simplifies installation and field replacement. Serviceable spare modules, including pumps and filters, allow targeted component swaps rather than full unit replacement, supporting faster restoration to service and optimising total cost of ownership. A broad accessory range, including relay modules, power supplies, duct sampling adaptors and tubing/filters, enables consistent hardware to be deployed across diverse applications.
Operational control, diagnostics and documentation support
Midas M offers both local and remote access for configuration and diagnostics. The front‑panel keypad allows on‑site adjustment and acknowledgement, while integrated Ethernet enables remote access via a standard web browser. Engineers can view gas levels, alarm states and configuration data from control rooms or engineering workstations without proprietary software, supporting efficient supervision and fault‑finding.
Event logging captures sensor and system history to support troubleshooting, trend analysis and compliance documentation. Password‑protected menu levels help maintain system integrity by limiting unauthorised changes to critical parameters. When supplied with sensor cartridges, sample and exhaust tubing and end‑of‑line filters, Midas M can be delivered as a complete system ready for installation. Combined with available datasheets, manuals and brochures, this supports design, commissioning, training and long‑term operation in high‑value manufacturing and research environments.
