Overview of Honeywell Sensepoint XCL
Discreet, Fixed Gas Detection for Commercial and Light Industrial Sites
Honeywell Sensepoint XCL is designed to deliver industrial-grade gas detection in locations where appearance matters as much as performance. Its compact polycarbonate enclosure, available in charcoal or white, sits unobtrusively in offices, hotels, healthcare facilities, retail spaces, high-rise residential blocks and public buildings. At the same time, IP65 / Type 4 ingress protection and robust construction provide reliable operation in tougher indoor and semi-outdoor areas, including boiler rooms, loading bays, garages, fuel stations, car parks and plant spaces. A 10-year device body lifetime (sensor excluded) supports long-term deployment and platform standardisation.
Wide Gas Coverage and Adaptable Sensing
Sensepoint XCL is available as a flammable gas detector for potentially explosive gas atmospheres and as a toxic or oxygen detector for a broad range of hazards. Supported sensor types include flammable, oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide (low and high range), nitrogen dioxide, ammonia and carbon dioxide, with CO2 options in both ppm and % volume ranges. Adjustable measurement ranges for key toxic gases allow alignment of alarm set-points with site risk assessments, process limits and local regulations.
A comprehensive library of replacement sensors mirrors the installed options, enabling detectors to be repurposed as processes evolve or new hazards are identified. This helps reduce the number of detector families on site, streamlines spares holdings and simplifies technician training across multiple areas.
Smartphone-Driven Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance
Bluetooth-enabled Sensepoint XCL variants use a dedicated smartphone app for Android and iOS to change how detectors are configured and serviced. Installers can create detector profiles, adjust alarm thresholds, run test procedures and complete commissioning wirelessly, typically from floor level, reducing the need for ladders, panel access or specialist programming tools. The app automatically generates commissioning reports, supporting traceable documentation and easier audit preparation.
During operation, the app provides direct access to diagnostic information, gas history and event records, and supports on-demand maintenance and safety audit reports. Initial calibration can be carried out using the app and a calibration gas cylinder without needing radio contact with a separate control room. Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity over typical line-of-sight distances further reduces time spent in hard-to-reach locations.
For sites where wireless connectivity is not preferred, non-Bluetooth models with fixed alarm points and internal calibration controls provide a consistent hardware platform while retaining a more traditional maintenance approach.
Flexible Integration with Control and Ventilation Systems
Sensepoint XCL supports a range of outputs to allow straightforward integration into both new projects and retrofit applications. Depending on variant, it offers industry-standard 4–20 mA loop operation, Modbus RTU digital communications, or combinations of these, making it compatible with Honeywell Touchpoint Plus and many third-party gas detection panels and building management systems. Versions with integrated relay outputs provide two onboard relays that can drive local sounders, beacons, ventilation fans or shutoff valves without additional interface hardware.
Multiple electrical variants, covering 4–20 mA only, 4–20 mA with relays, Modbus only and Modbus with relays, in both charcoal and white finishes, allow system designers to align detector choice with infrastructure and budget. Support for DC and AC power supplies and low power consumption across flammable, toxic and CO2 versions further simplifies deployment in distributed systems and reduces loading on control and power equipment.
Fast Installation and Straightforward Serviceability
Sensepoint XCL is engineered to be quick to install. Each detector is supplied with a mounting back box, M20 cable gland, drilling templates and a quick-start guide so installers can mount and wire the device using standard tools. Everything required for mechanical installation is included, helping to reduce project time and minimise unplanned site visits.
In operation, a multi-colour LED light ring provides clear indication of detector status, including normal operation, alarm, warning, fault, inhibited state and Bluetooth pairing or connection. Status can therefore be confirmed at a glance, assisting routine checks and fault-finding.
Sensor replacement is intentionally simple: removing a single screw releases the cover plate, after which the app (for Bluetooth variants) guides the technician through the replacement and associated checks. An integral gassing port, together with optional fixed remote gassing ports and duct mount kits, makes bump testing and calibration practical even for detectors mounted in ducts, overhead positions or constrained locations.
Compliance, Applications and Lifecycle Support
Sensepoint XCL is designed to help maintain continuous safety and regulatory compliance in environments where gas hazards are present, from commercial buildings and public-sector facilities to cosmetic laboratories, brewing and food processing plants, boiler rooms, loading bays, garages, fuel-handling areas and multi-storey car parks. It is certified to key electrical safety and EMC standards, with selected models carrying additional approvals for carbon monoxide and methane detection in ventilation and life-safety applications. Operating temperature and humidity ranges support use across varied site conditions.
A wide selection of accessories, including calibration and flow caps, duct mounting kits, fixed remote gassing ports, cable glands and replacement filters, supports flexible installation and ongoing performance. Spare sensors, service kits, sensor covers and decal covers are available in both charcoal and white to maintain appearance and simplify fleet management across multiple buildings. Optional rugged Android handheld smart devices extend the practicality of Bluetooth-enabled servicing in harsher industrial environments.
Together, the detector platform, accessories and documentation set make Honeywell Sensepoint XCL a cost-effective choice for organisations seeking consistent gas detection hardware, streamlined maintenance and strong visual integration across commercial and light industrial estates.
