Ethylene oxide (EtO) is a colourless, highly reactive gas used in sterilisation, medical equipment processing, and chemical manufacturing. While essential in these applications, EtO is both flammable and toxic, with recognised carcinogenic properties. Short-term exposure can cause respiratory irritation, nausea, and headaches, while long-term exposure increases the risk of neurological effects and cancer.
