Hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) is a highly toxic, flammable gas with a characteristic rotten egg smell, common in oil and gas, wastewater treatment, mining, and pulp and paper industries. Even at low concentrations, it can cause eye and respiratory irritation, while higher levels rapidly lead to loss of smell, unconsciousness, and can be fatal. Because H₂S is heavier than air, it often accumulates in confined spaces, increasing the risk of sudden high-exposure incidents.
