Hydrogen chloride (HCl) is a toxic, corrosive, and colourless gas with a sharp, irritating odour, widely used in chemical production, metal refining, and semiconductor manufacturing. On contact with moisture, it forms hydrochloric acid, which can cause severe burns to the skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. Even at low concentrations, HCl exposure can irritate the nose and throat, while prolonged exposure may result in chronic respiratory conditions.
