Detection is typically achieved using electrochemical sensors with high sensitivity to low parts-per-million levels. These sensors deliver fast response times and stable readings, with routine calibration ensuring long-term reliability and compliance with occupational exposure limits.
Ethylene oxide (EtO) is a colourless, highly reactive gas used in sterilisation, medical equipment processing, and chemical manufacturing. While essential in these applications, EtO is both flammable and toxic, with recognised carcinogenic properties. Short-term exposure can cause respiratory irritation, nausea, and headaches, while long-term exposure increases the risk of neurological effects and cancer. Because it is colourless and often odourless at hazardous concentrations, reliable detection is critical wherever EtO is handled.
